I am a 63 year old white man and Muhammad Ali was my hero growing up. I loved him as a fighter but more because of his outspokenness and his courage. When I spoke about him to younger people I would always say he was more of a lover, or maybe a better way of putting it was that he was a lover of people. Hearing his daughter Hannah here speak about his other daughter Mia and relating the story about how he jumped on a plane the day after she told him that no one believed he was her father and how he did all those things with those other kids in her school and how he walked down the middle of the street with her, holding her hand so everyone could see them together, brought me to tears. That was the real Ali that I sensed as a kid when I saw him. I was in awe of him as a fighter but I could always tell that THAT was NOT the biggest side of him. He was a hero!

WOW. At the 12 minute mark when Hana talks about Ali going to the school with his daughter and having her point out the kids who said she wasn't his daughter. Then later walking down the middle of the street, hand in hand with his daughter for all the town to see. Very touching.

It is so Wonderful to have had Muhammad Ali during my time. In 1963 he was so out spoken and unbelievable that I did not like him, but that changed when those words came true after the Sonny Liston fight! I grew to love that man! I know the people who purposely made up laws to stop him from working felt stupid after he regain his title. To YAH (God) be the Glory!

Oh boy, he came to Newcastle. Newcastle’s the capital of the north of course and it’s my family home. But it’s a tiny little city compared to what’s believed to be great in the USA. Even though Newcastle has made a HUGE impact on modern day life. The Industrial Age, steam trains, electricity, ship building Etc., Mr Ali is one in a billion still. A history maker. I believe everyone’s life is important in history. Think about thousands of years age, prehistoric art in caves and in your minds eye you imagine the man who painted it and why. He was telling his family which animals were in their world and how to hunt them. You imagine how powerful he must have been and strong. His art is perfect, the best of the best and even today thousands of years later his art speaks to us and says, believe in my family here we lived and here we died, this was our home. Mr Ali knew how powerful family is and he cared, even in his illness. The best indeed. Thank you Mr Ali for proving if you believe in yourself other people will believe in you. And no one has a small life. We are all great and in thousands of years from now, if mankind still exists, something of us will still survive. Our art will be on the wall.

Whenever I was going with the bad crowd my dad would tell me that I was born to do something in my life and He would repeat Ali’s poem about wasting time in life . Magnificent success in life based solely on his exterior and perceived greatness. In reality, he was illiterate. Reminds me of my step-grandfather who was also a handsome man who found success in life despite being illiterate. I have degrees everywhere, was very successful academically, but the world rejected me (probably because of my exterior)........lesson learned is that success in life is all about how many people like you primarily based on your exterior. As long as people like what they see, a person will eventually find a measure of success in life.
