I can’t believe I’m only the second person to comment on what is arguably the greatest video ever uploaded to KZbin.

This isn't the history of the Sports Illustrated Swim Suit issue video. What are you talking about?? LOL

It's a shame Dutch Rennert wasn't teaching his mechanics here...

Robert Forbian - Best punch out ever, mechanics and vocal. I tell my kids about him, but it’s hard to find videos of him. Nice to see others talking about Dutch.

I thought he was supposed to say "strike"?

I always hated it when a guy would do the dramatic 'pull the string' on a swinging strike three. OR... "strike three, 'yer out" or "ball four take your base..." then pointing to first with strike (right) hand as if calling a strike or batter doesn't know to go to first on ball 4!?

"I always hated it when a guy would do the dramatic 'pull the string' on a swinging strike three." I agree-- umps shouldn't do that on the swinging kind, because it comes across as rubbing it in, as if the player didn't know (the fist is all that is needed to show a swinging fan). Called strikes require much more to show that it was a strikeout, because players don't know the status of the pitch or their status unless the umpire does something.

I used to “pull the string” without verbalizing when there was a swinging strike 3. I think I’ll stop doing so this year!

I noticed that some MLB umpires point to the right with the finger pointing up right? Are they wrong???? Thanks

No. Both are correct. I prefer the pointing method personally, but believe it is becoming less common.

Depends on your organization, the mechanics covered in this video are for Little League. High School, NCAA and many others are okay with a point to the right. I personally point to the right but keep my head looking forward at the field so I don't miss potential plays such as batter's interference.

I saw a dead squirrel on the side of the road being a more exciting presenter of baseball umpire mechanics than this guy.

These are officials, and this video is excellent and is worth a lot of money in its educational...a keyboard, and safe place hidden away is perfect for gutless people like yourself to sound off

Yet doesn't say "strike." Says "hike" instead, why bother teaching if you're going to do it wrong?
