My hunch is that the comments Riley made about not paying Jimmy during the offseason was a shot at "old school motivation." Clearly, it didn't work. Jimmy seems like an intelligent enough dude to understand what was going on, but probably didn't appreciate being called out like that. Butler's never been a guy who has cheated the game, and if he's out there giving 110% for 40 minutes in his 30's, the reality is that he's going to miss some games because of it. Nobody talks about it, but Riley very well just might be too much of a relic at this point to still be the guy in charge. Might be time for him to retire.

The talent and competition in the league during the peak of Butler’s Heat tenure is nothing short of exceeding expectation. It is a given a bit of luck was involved in a lot of their finals run but coaching and superior effort pushed them over the hump. The talent on their roster wasn’t a guaranteed finals appearance. The Jimmy Butler in Miami will be memorable simply because of the two NBA Finals trips, but I understand why people are saying those series were underwhelming. In neither one of those Finals did the Miami Heat look like they had even a 50% shot at winning. By Game 4 of both series they were already on the brink of elimination, so people are going to give him credit for winning the east but not really much for how his team performed in both of those Finals. But yea overall the "Playoff Jimmy" legacy will be good for representing his time in Miami whenever it does officially come to an end.

The Hoop Collective talked about this and a point I totally agree with is that "letting a player go for nothing" in free agency might be a good thing in this CBA. My theory is that the heat are trying to mitigate any losses to his trade value. Butler has two years left on his contract (including this year) AND he’s 36 years old, which is usually when stars start to decline. If reports about butler wanting to leave Miami are unanswered, the return teams are willing to give wouldn’t be enough for the heat. Therefore by making it seem like they won’t trade him, it might bait teams to give a little bit more.
@theflesh900518 күн бұрын
Sorry for the long ass comment lol. TL:DR, butler is old and has a short term contract, so by making him hard to get they’ll force teams to give up more than bargained for.

Ring culture is toxic. I think it started when LeBron didn't win a ring in his first Cavs stint. Even though he never had a teammate who scored more than 16 points 😅😅😅

An admin from quite big NBA trades news account in IG once told me that he don't really like Shams report and never consider him a reliable source. They think that Shams seems only care about being the first one to report it instead of being the most truthful reporter.

Ring culture started when Shaq started running his mouth to Chuck and to Dwight about ring count. No dig to Diesel, mans got plenty to be proud of, but when he’s on Inside the NBA trying to keep Chuck from making a point because he didn’t get any rings, that’s where it’s coming from
