Harden was 1 of 6 players in the entire league to average 16ppg and 8apg. In the playoffs he was 21ppg and 8apg on improved efficiency. Nobody was bidding against the Clippers because everybody in the league knew Harden was intending on signing with the Clippers the entire time. He was literally the first signing of the window. Had he truly been on the open market he absolutely would've commanded upwards of 30m without question.

I feel bad for Kawhi, really. He gets so much flak about not wanting to play basketball or whatever, but like, if he didn't want to play basketball he just wouldn't. He wants to play. His body just doesn't let him, and he has no say in his body's health. With a degenerative knee condition, I couldn't blame him for just walking away from basketball right now and saying "You know what, I don't want to be on a cane at 50 because I kept pushing as my knee kept weakening". He already has generational money. It's because he loves basketball and wants to play that he *is* still load managing and trying to make a run of it, long-term consequences be damned. This is going to be an even hotter take, but Ben Simmons has a very similar thing going on. People do not realise how fucked up spinal injuries are.

The problem for these rich teams is they assumed they'd just be able to get free agents to never be bad so their draft pick don't matter. But free agency died due to the new CBA and even more because the best players realized its much easier to sign the max money at your team and ask for a trade than risk free agency. That's why everyone offered a super max takes it, because even if you don't like your team, you are a request away from playing for another team so why not take the extra money. Lakers/Suns/Clippers are going to be in huge trouble with the new rules and their prior choices, especially with expansion stretching teams further

the clippers contract situation is not nearly as bad as kenny making it out to be, just because of the salary cap increase in the next few years. With the increase in salary cap, the contracts becomes smaller and smaller in terms of the percentage of the salary cap they take up. They will have a lot more flexibility in the future, OG is making 36 million now, but 48 million in 2028. In three years, they will be one of the team with the most of the capspace in the league, with kawhi and hardens contract expiring. They both can be traded during that time too, you can get at least 1 or 2 first round picks with kawhi and harden imo. It is not the best but not nearly as bad kenny is making it out to be

My whole experience of being a Clippers fan since 2016 when I could actually watch games has been seeing players go down with injuries during the post season. I think we’ve had like two healthy post seasons since then, one with Tobias Harris as the leading scorer against the KD warriors and the other in the bubble.

Clippers are without a doubt in the worst spot relatively spoken. If you have as little control over your draft capital as the Clippers do, you should be at least a legit title contender a la the Celtics or OKC, not a fringe play off team. At least the Suns, despite their payroll, could have some (false) hope in being an actually good team if they get at least some competent PG play next season. Together with the new arena in a market they share with the Lakers in an ever losing battle it's all desperation for the Clippers. Desperation to be actually competent enough to fill their new arena and be good enough to only lose a later lottery pick. Losing a pick in the lottery is never fun, but it being an early teens pick instead of a top 5 pick feels less painful. And they could get any help with that when their one option is perenially injured + getting older and their second option being a 34 year old who realistically could fall of a cliff. Nonetheless, the only way to be mediocre and be happy with it, is in a rebuilding year and going upwards every year, because every season will have middle of the road teams. That's simply how it works. Every year the teams will end up 1-30 in some order with all winning anywhere between 0-82 games and losing the others until they reach 82 games played. Middle of the road with no clear direction is the worst. You either want to be a contender doing some serious damage in the postseason or be so bad and at least have hope with new talented prospects.
