As former JW, I can confirm that in my old congregation, young brothers were always joking about converting attractive women, either from work or ones they met in the field. Some were more serious about it than others, but when you're in a cult with a finite amount of members, not all of whom might be attractive, single, or even interested in you, many do start looking outside the religion for mates and try to justify it in their heads that they're only interested in helping the person get to know Jehovah, when in reality the whole thing is a completely selfish act, and as Lloyd mentioned, goes against their own religious teachings. This guy is playing you big time and all for his own benefit and satisfaction. In his mind, you will never be worthy enough for him to pursue a relationship with or introduce to his family and friends until you convert to his religion, and if you never do, then just like the dating site that he wasn't supposed to be on, so too, you will just be his dirty little secret that he'll keep to himself until he meets a JW sister and moves on with his life. Sorry, don't mean to be harsh, but JW men can be savage.

@ Byron Stander wow! you wrapped up how the brothers in the cult are and to be honest that’s how I was “brought into the religion”… I met my ex husband, he introduced me to a sister to study the Bible with, I got baptized and we got married.. (almost didn’t because of the confusion one sister caused)….BAM!!! I was always considered to be “worldly” to the lonely/desperate for a man “sisters” in the Borg.. the brothers play with the single sisters by making think they’re interested then all of a sudden they find an “outsider” from another congregation or a worldly women…..

The great thing about this channel is that despite your not believing in any particular religion, you don't make anyone feel stupid or feel like they're being called out as being stupid for believing in religion. Your conversations with the various people about their religions are intelligent and designed simply to make people think rather than to catch them in a complete 'gotcha'. In my opinion, anyway. You're respectful of people's belief rather than aiming to tear them down for it. I think that's why you appeal to both the religious and non-religious alike whether or not you or someone else agrees on any particular thing.

Even if the caller entered into a study or even a romantic relationship with this guy, they would have to lie about how they met. There is no way he could tell anyone in his congregation that they met on a dating site, esp. one that had members from 'false religions' . This is not surprising at all. I've personally known several brothers that made it a practice to be constantly trying to recruit "from the world" when looking for a relationship. I don't blame them, on one hand, because the selection pool within a circuit is pure shit. However, it becomes extremely transparent how their faith and belief is structured when people simply learn the ways around the technicalities. I knew a brother, we were actually business partners for several years, who recruited a wife from the outside by converting her. FOUR TIMES. That's right, someone explain to me how a baptized brother can be on his fourth wife before the age of 40, all recruits, and never be disfellowshipped or publicly reproved. He may have faded by now, I haven't seen him in years, because ironically, my own disfellowshipping was somehow a problem, even though the last conversation we did have, as he was between wives, was his invitation to attend a Playboy-sponsored event with him and to overhear a phone conversation with a girl who said as soon as she answered the phone, "not again tonight, you tore up my p*$$y last night." I will never understand. I'm pretty sure he enjoyed using "turning them" as as big of a manipulation tool as the society does. If he can pick any girl he wants from a night club, convince her to join his religion against the pleas of her family, well, he's got full control of the person. Ironically, with each divorce, the exes never stayed with the religion. None of them.

That seemed strange to me too (her minister who did not realised she was talking to a JW). However, maybe this lovely caller did not share all the information to her minister, maybe she did not want to share with him she was on a dating site, so she just asked the minister something like "who or what is Jehovah". Still, I do not consider the minister's response complete or even correct but somehow it would explain why he did not tell her she was talking to a JW. Besides, I do not think any other Christian domination uses the "Jehovah". It's kind of a brand name for the specific cult.

Funny thing yesterday the Spanish witnesses knocked on my door and I told them I speak very little Spanish so they gave me the little JW card with the QR code and said if I ever wanted to talk about the Bible that I could add reach out to them there in my area a lot. I’ve only received letters from them in the mail and never responded my mom is a JW but in active. My brother is a job at JW but I’m not sure if he was ever Disfellowshipped because he joined the Marines. I told my family if they come to the door we are not interested, but if they wanted to learn, they can have the option, but they said no. Growing up in that religion deprive me of so much but also gave me a great foundation in public speaking.

I always crept it in slowly over time that I believe in the JW religion and my family are all involved in it. Revealing that information never went well. It wasn't until I became un-indoctrinated that I realized how wrong it was to introduce the religion to someone who already developed feelings for me. I never cared about being on worldly dating sites because I wasn't even going to meetings for anyone to get me into trouble, but I still defended JW teachings. Ugh. I’m a female who was born in and although I left as soon as I moved out of my parents’ home, I was a typical teen totally focused on (in my case) boys. There were limited options to begin with, and if you weren’t a “strong” JW, it was pretty much impossible.

I know exactly what you are saying. Even outside of the JW org, men are held to high standards. But the standards are almost impossible inside the org. That and there are not many women who stay in the org after they become old enough to marry or marry at a very young age to the most richest and spiritual ranked. I ended up marrying the 1st worldly young woman that wanted me. I had kids with her, struggled with being a JW, she would study off and on only to put me down and try to make me look bad for my questions I had that something wasn't right in the org. Only to have her use the local kingdomhall to help her divorce me (after 13yrs I was committed and tried to hold the family together. I look back and should have left her before our first child after she beat the crap out of me then called the cops on me. I was in jail for a month before the DA dropped the case nolea prosecutea. My children were the only positive thing that came out of it but alas I don't have them anymore) and take my kids and help her get into welfare and an apartment. It's very interesting how for an org who claims to be given direction by the Divine Creator in God, the get it all wrong. They protect the wicked the wolves within but the innocent they convicted shun.

Understanding cognitive dissonance can be difficult and it is best to let people go through it at their own pace. Some get it quickly, others need more time. I have a family member who moved from Christian denomination to another for 30+ years (into his 50s). Every time he leaves one, he calls it a cult. Finally, a few years ago, he realized they were all selling the same product. It was just wrapped differently. He has now left religion. It took him 30+ years to get it, despite years and years of conversation with agnostic and atheists. I had doubts growing up, but it took me decade to formulate and be comfortable with a replacement path.

Sometimes people accidentally end up with a partner who isn't also a JW, but this guy is deliberately going outside of the JWs. This is speculation, but I think the reason the guy in this situation is on the dating site is because he's not getting on well socially within the JWs. If he's not finding a partner in the religion, then something isn't right for him there. There could be many reasons. He may not be 100% in (unbaptised), so other JWs are wary of him. According to Judaism the name of God isn't pronounceable and we aren't even to try to say it. (which is why it is always 'adonai' or 'hashem' - lord or the name). The Hebrew name of God (the tetragrammaton) is supposed to only be on holy texts so actually the way the JWs put it all over the place is rather offensive to Jews.

@MrDMC11889
@MrDMC11889 2 жыл бұрын
They push having a chaperone more on younger couples. "Marry only in the lord" and "do not become unevenly yoked with unbelievers" are rules Jehovah's Witnesses are expected to follow. It doesn't warrant expulsion but more often than not marking. A talk is given that's centered around said "publisher's" conduct. The purpose of this discourse is to let the congregation know that this person is bad association. At the very least this "bother" isn't exemplary. That's another jw term.

I have no doubt that this JW guy would get in deep trouble with his congregation's Elders if they knew he had befriended a non-JW Christian woman on a dating website that is run and utilized by non-JW Christians who are considered by the Watchtower Society as belonging to "Christendom" (referring to all non-JW forms of Christianity) which comprises part of "Babylon the Great, the World Empire of False Religion" (referring to all non-JW religious groups, both Christian and non-Christian), such ridiculous denominational phrases in my opinion. In regard to whether or not the name "Jehovah" is "simply the Biblical God's in Hebrew"--as this anonymous female caller's minister/pastor/preacher told her, I doubt it, but it doesn't really matter to me from a theological perspective since I am now an atheist. The name "Yahweh" is more probably a more accurate name for the Biblical God according to what many Biblical scholars have claimed based on their research. It is true that Witnesses believe that by calling the God of the Bible by the name of "Jehovah", that implies, to them, that they have more of a "personal relationship" with Him. Even though this so-called "relationship" between them and their God is constantly being monitored by their fellow Witnesses. So, I have to ask: when considering those circumstances, is such a relationship really all that "personal"? Although some lifelong non-JW Christians refer to the name "Jehovah", when talking about the God the of the Bible...even sometimes in a frequent manner, it is a name for the Biblical God that the Witnesses constantly utilize. If this JW guy on the dating website referred to his belief in an earthly paradise where God's human followers will dwell forever without sickness, disability, old age or death to bother them--his referrals to these concepts definitely would have been strong indicators that he is a Jehovah's Witness to me. I'm guessing that the caller believes in a more mainstream interpretation of the Christian religion. If she believes in concepts like the Trinity, a literal lake of fire and brimstone called Hell where unrepentant sinners are tormented in physical agony forever after their mortal deaths, that the soul is an immortal entity within you that physically separates from the body after death and goes to Heaven to be with God after one's mortal death etc., let's just say that you'll definitely run into some problems if you're trying to convince a Jehovah's Witness to even consider these concepts as being valid theological ideas. JWs have apologetic arguments that they use in order to reject these concepts, but then again, the people who believe in these and other mainstream Christian doctrines have their apologetic arguments for why they believe in these concepts. Do I think the Biblical authors explicitly refer to the concepts of the Trinity, the immortality of the soul or Hell as being a literal lake of fire and brimstone in the Old Testament or the New Testament? I would probably say no, I think those were beliefs that developed later as the theological beliefs of Christians in the 1st century of the Common Era were being considered and worked out as Christianity began to grow and was drifting from its more Jewish roots, but it doesn't matter to me if someone actually believes in these concepts and believes that they are referred to in the Bible (implicitly or explicitly) or not, as I said...I'm an atheist. It's no surprise that the JW man would send this caller all of these articles from JW magazines or excerpts from JW books. He's not allowed to look at and consider information regarding anything about the Bible or religion that hasn't been officially written, published and distributed by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. He's taught to automatically reject anything and everything that conflicts or contradicts the Watchtower Society's official interpretation of the Biblical texts. He is not allowed to consume any sort of media source that critiques JW beliefs, practices or culture, whether those sources were created by lifelong non-JWs or ex-JWs. The JWs are taught to regard any and all criticisms of their denominational doctrines, rituals or culture as largely being either "lies" or "half-truths", especially if the information being presented is being given by an apostate (an ex-Jehovah's Witness). Witnesses are taught to trust in and not question anything that the Watchtower Society tells them to believe or do. They are not allowed to question anything that is written in the denomination's literature, and they are discouraged from even privately disagreeing with it. If they publicly disagree with anything that the Watchtower Society has written, has said or has done--a Witness can be forcibly excommunicated from and shunned by the denomination. Witnesses believe that to critique the teachings of the Governing Body who run the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society is to question the authority of God Himself. It's basically a form of blasphemy to the JWs. There's no separation between Church and God in JW theology or culture. Everyone and anyone who isn't a baptized, believing, active Jehovah's Witnesses is "under the influence of Satan and his demonic minions" and cannot truly be trusted. If one has not become a JW when Armageddon comes, they're going to be annihilated by God's angelic army led by Jesus according to JW theology when God decides to take back control of the world from humans and decides to raise his supernatural holy war against Satan, the demons, any persons whom He regards as "unrepentant sinners". According to Witness theology, those people killed at Armageddon will remain dead for all eternity in a state of unconscious sleep. It will be as if they never existed in the first place. If this JW man's Elders found out that he was talking regularly with a non-JW woman who doesn't want to become a Jehovah's Witness, he will likely be told by his Elders to cut off all contact with her. Although marrying a non-JW isn't an excommunicable offense, it is still strongly discouraged. If he tries to date and them marries this non-JW women, he will be expected to try and convert her as often as he can. He will be required to put his religious faith above his relationship with her. If they have children together after getting legally married, he will be expected to raise his kids to believe in Jehovah's Witness doctrine and not allow her to have any say in their religious upbringing. He will be expected to put the expectations and non-negotiable demands his faith above even his relationship with their own potential children. This anonymous caller--she would be expected to live her life according to JW rules even though she adheres to a non-JW interpretation of the Christian faith and has made it explicitly clear that she has no interest in ever becoming a Witness at all. The anonymous caller would be expected to orient her entire life according to the Watchtower Society's religious and moral standards if she were to marry this JW man and it wouldn't matter what her religious faith would expect and require her to believe, think, say or do because her faith is "false and is a concoction of the devil and his demons" according to Witness theology. All I can say is that she is in a difficult situation and should carefully consider about what to do next in regard to her relationship with this JW man. I wish her the best of luck in whatever she decides to do.

I'm sure dating was easier for guys who were at least elders son or from higher families. For ordinary rank and file brother from a dirt poor family it was a mess. You get nothing useful out of your parents and all youre left with is a mess being an adult young male, not undestanding yourself have no idea nor plan how to proceed should a pretty young woman ever talk back. Oh and btw if youre not alt least ministerial servant forget about sisters in your congreagation- they have been told to look for spiritually mature bros only and you all know that! And youre even not allowed to rub one out without getting serious conciousness issues. Good god did coming of age suck! Anyways we can go on about calling the dude disningenuous and crafty and danger and all that- he might very well be all that. But if he's not a predator- then he's just a young man reaching out. he could lie to his parents, fellow JW's and elders - tbh they should not have any power over his private matters and you do not win battles with a deceitful organisation by being an open book. I do call out the cap on "but he's was hiding he's a JW" c'mon didnt we all when there was confrontational situation coming up at school or with relatives or with whoever- ther has been a moment with every JW where they have chosen not to come forward with who they are- I have seen an elder do that in front of my very own eyes. back to the subject - it is natural for men to seek out girls at this age and fall in love etc etc. if nobody wants him in his congregation he is allowed to widen his search till he gets someone (not by JW but just by laws of nature). Things must be pretty grave in his area if he had to write off the whole organisation and go for christians in general and tbh i'm not surprised. So now it's time you 2 have a chat - a real chat. Ask him what his plans are. You will never join JW's he needs to hear it loud and clear. BUT. He could leave JW's he would not be leaving Jesus or faith in bible, you don't have to be a JW to have faith. Let him talk how he plans his finances. JW's are told to have shitty jobs and god takes care of rest - that won't do. what's his roadmap for education and employment for the future? Also he will be shunned by everyone on his side till lthe rest of his life - will he take this very hard hit for you? Btw His frantic efforts to pull you into JW's are probably because he know's he's on borrowed time he can't hide this for much longe and if you we're to become a JW then he does not have to and he's free to love you - forgive him his naivety but make sure he knows - that isnt going to happen. But he needs to make a choice: does he want to be a good christian with a good christian wife, or a bad jehovahs witness?
