The only kind of “straight” the Chicken Lady is Edge… Skyler is written to be unlikable, but the hate is misguided since Walter’s whole arc is masking his downfall by compensating his ego and masculine with acts of violence. You could call her enabling part of her flaws, but like Jesse, she’s also a victim of Walter’s choices and his finale act isn’t redemption that frees the cast from what he’s cause, but acceptance of what’s he become. The death isn’t grief, but relief as an audience that he can no longer linger in their lives. It’s heartbreaking, but satisfying nonetheless to see proper pathos to the resolution.

I mean think of it from Skylar's pov the normal guy she thought she knew and had children with was actually a murderous drug lord who put their entire family in danger for the sake of his own ego, which he admits later in the series, yeah she probably isnt going to be happy-go-lucky about it. But the story is told from Walts point of view and people are very easily influenced and don't think about situations objectively when they're part of a story. Just remember the show is called "Breaking Bad" which even before the show was a term for a good guy becoming a bad guy, Walt is the villain in a lot of people's stories.

The unlikable part of skyler is the fact that she actually helps walt sometimes and isn't really better than him, and has no consequences for it. cheating on walt and telling him about it doesn't make her likable either.

Not really "universal". On the net it's mostly loud haters (also sometimes misogists). Myself i disliked her from the start, but since season 3 i liked her a lot. She's always been a bit of a bitch, but after a while bitchiness became really useful

By authorial intent, I believe that Skylar is a character you're meant to feel empathy for, but not necessarily "like". They intentionally write her to have some traits that will bother the audience, and then they have a bunch of crap happen to her that she doesn't deserve. Unfortunately for the writers I think most audiences have a level of distance between themselves and the characters where they're fine with bad things happening to characters they don't like.

Skyler was written to be an unlikeable character, at least in the first seasons, but she ends up being a victim who doesn't really deserve all the bad things that happen to her, and i think people who are invested in the story can empathize with her in the end
