Many young kids are forced to move with their parents to new cities. Of course there is always homesickness, but they learn how to adapt to new situations, assist their parents in these difficult times, re-organise their lives, start afresh ;and develop important social and communication skills in order to make new friends! If Sofia moves, the skills and experience she takes will be invaluable to future work settings and family settings...She'll develop empathy, self-control, and putting others before herself. I'm not saying moving is more valuable than staying (people take in experiences differently) but moving is certainly not devastating to one's life! I will mention however, that Arizona's increased absences are somewhat concerning. Sofia has shown she hates it when she's dropped off at Meredith's, and Arizona has shown that she still needs time to find a soulmate, and Sofia may just be a bit of an inconvenience. Arizona will have to put Sofia first. In addition, the increased amount of emergency surgeries will mean she will have to put Sofia at Meredith's even more... Not really thinking of Sofia, is she? Additionally, Callie would never had let her lawyer bring it to court if Arizona didn't halt all communication with Callie and ask her to "speak with her lawyer". This was the exact same day Callie wanted to meet up with Arizona to see how they could possibly arrange custody of Sofia, but Arizona felt that applying to New York schools ahead of time was a threat and meant she was about to kidnap Sofia.... Jumping to conclusions much? Why couldn't Arizona sit down with Callie and have a normal, adult discussion (like Callie requested)? Even if one answer was obvious to Arizona, a mature discussion allows Arizona to open her thoughts and explain her perspective to Callie, and vice versa, generating an increased understanding and empathy;(even if the decision would needed to be eventually settled in court). As seen, it was Arizona who wanted to take her daughter away from Callie. She literally stated that she wanted to fight for full custody of her daughter when she first met with her lawyer. She didn't even want to discuss with Callie because she had her mind set....

One of the my favorite moments is when Arizona says (in response to Callie's lawyer) that no one could ever imply that Sofia was not her daughter. That when Callie got pregant there was a choice - she could stay or she could run. She says she chose motherhood and that it was the best choice she had ever made. I just get the chills with that scene cause it's so true.

What happened to Callie? She went so downhill after the plane crash, acting like the biggest victim when she wasn’t even there. And then she tries to move across the country with a woman she’s known for 3 months. She didn’t even consult Arizona before picking schools for Sofia. She was so horrible all the way through the trial, insulting her as a doctor, her trivia nights with Richard and trying to say Arizona wasn’t as much of a parent as her because she’s not biological. She brought that on herself and Arizona absolutely deserved custody.

I love Callie but I was on Arizona's side. For some people saying it's just a show and it doesn't matter, yea that may be true, but when you're emotionally attached to the characters, it becomes more than just a show. This is a real issue for a lot of people. Just because Arizona isn't Sofia's biological mother doesn't make her any less of a mother. She is just as much Sofia's mom as Callie is. When Callie is crying and Meredith is comforting her and she pulls her hand away from Penny is when Callie realized that Penny isn't worth it and all of this was for nothing. She didn't have to take Arizona to court. The custody trial didn't have to happen. This is very out of character for Callie. I feel like she changed because of Penny because the Callie of previous episodes and seasons wouldn't have done this. She wouldn't have even thought to take Sofia away from her mom and the people she's known her whole life. Callie Torres is not a selfish character but she was definitely acting like one. Even Bailey told her she was essentially giving up her career to follow a girl to the other side of the country. Arizona looked kind of sad when she gave Callie the plane tickets but she loves her so much she was willing to let her go. Even though she won't be in season 13, I'm hopeful that Sara will return for another season or the finale. Her exit didn't seem final. It didn't do Sara or Callie justice at all. Sara Ramirez is a phenomenal actress and I'm going to stop now before I write a whole essay on the character of Callie Torres and Sara Ramirez.

1. Children need stability in their lives while they are growing. That's a fact. Like you said, children are FORCED to move to new cities with their parents. In this situation, Sofia wouldn't be forced to move because both parents are moving to new city, but because Callie wants Sofia wherever she goes. Also, if moving to new cities is so enriching for children, why are foster children the most vulnerable children and often also the most developmentally delayed? Moving constantly instills the idea that they shouldn't get close to anyone because they would eventually move away again and only be hurt. It also affects their ability to settle down and continue their education. Sofia made a good group of peers at Seattle where she can be supported by family and friends in her growth. You can't guarantee that she won't be bullied by her peers in New York. Or that there are less adults who she feels she can count on for support. 2. Using increased absence as an excuse for someone not being a good mother is just sexist and rude. There are single mothers everywhere who earn a fraction of what Arizona earns, who also raise amazing children without the village. If Arizona really needed to spend more time with Sofia, she ultimately has the financial luxury of working less, earning less, and spending more time with Sofia. She can run her practice the way she wants too. Did you forget that Meredith is the head of general surgery? That she is a widow and a single mother of THREE children? Two of the children are younger than Sofia. Should people question Meredith's emergency work schedule and her ability to care for THREE young children? No. 3. By submitting in the application without even discussing it with Arizona, Callie acted in arrogance and acted presumptively. Callie says she's was "going to talk to Arizona", but she was entering any potential conversations believing that the outcome would be what she wanted: Sofia going to New York. She wasn't entering the conversation with Arizona open minded. She was going to argue and strong arm Arizona. Arizona is a mother, and if she felt that her child was slipping away from her, she has every right to bring in a lawyer and letting the professionals argue on behalf of her. That's called being smart. When you get a divorce, you bring in divorce lawyers to discuss property distribution and argue for the house and car on behalf of you. At the end of the day Callie was the one that disturbed the equilibrium for Sofia. She could have left Sofia in the stable environment she is in now, but she acted selfishly. She didn't act in the best interest of Sofia. Her move to New York wouldn't even be permanent. Callie was going to rip Sofia out of the village just so she can be comfortable and happy during the lousy year that Penny had her research fellowship. Both of them would have had to come back to Seattle regardless. Callie should have just visited Sofia as much as she can during her year in New York with Penny.

@The Caring Adolf Hitler Yes she should celebrate when justice is served but Callie was unbearable even when they were clearly uncomfortable with her. callie wanted to take Sophia away for a year just to be with her girlfriend who she had only been dating for a few months.Then she played dirty in court thinking that it would help her win and as you were saying she had given Arizona Legal rights to Sofia regardless of what happened so she couldn't have just made decisions about Sofia's future without consulting her. If Arizona is a better parent then Arizona is a better parent. Arizona left her at the airport because she felt Callie didn't want to go and that Callie was going to ruin it with her attitude. Instead of being happy for Arizona she instead felt sorry for herself because she would have to go even though it was her choice.

@The Caring Adolf Hitler Arizona had never bashed Callie in court her lawyer used reasonable arguments and she never bashed anyone which is why Callie's lawyer never had any reason to object, but Arizona's lawyer did because Callie and her lawyer choose to play dirty and try to make Arizona seem like an unfit mom when clearly she wasn't because when she won custody she gave up Sofia so she could be with callie. Callie then would have never done that to Arizona even if Sofia was unhappy because her relationship was more important which is why Arizona is better because she actually listened to Sofia like in the last season when she went to new York so Sofia could be happy with her both moms. Calie was ruining the whole trip for Arizona and she didn't even congratulate her that much. Arizona came back because even without Callie her trip was unenjoyable for her.

I'm really glad Arizona won. Callie has always been one of my favorite characters on the show however not talking to Arizona was the wrong move. I feel like all of this could have been avoided if Callie talked to Arizona about the move instead of jumping the gun. as much as I love Callie, it was right for Arizona to win, I get why Callie thought what she thought, but Arizona was the bigger person and didn’t through trash at Callie, all she thought was to make sofia happy, and knew no matter what, sofia would have a good life with Callie or her. Also what I loved was that Arizona actually thought about sofia and less about herself and realized that “sofia deserves to have two happy moms”. Although I hate that Callie and Arizona got divorced cuz their love was so real and tbh I thought they were gonna get somewhere. But I’m also happy that Arizona moved to New York because Arizona knew that sofia seeing Callie and also going to her favorite school in New York would make sofia a happy child and that’s all Arizona really cared about. A relationship she doesn't even know if it has the staying power to last for years or just a couple more months. Falling in love is not a justification to uprooting a child's life because you are in love. I love Callie and Arizona there are too strong characters that Grey's Anatomy has produced. It's a shame that they couldn't work this out and it had to go to court.

I personally feel like in this custody battle, Arizona showed love for her child as well as maturity, whereas Callie just tried to play on the sympathy of the judge and was childishly mud slinging at Arizona and the judge was smart enough to see it. I have to say I was so relieved when Arizona walked off with Sofia, you could tell the emotion in her face, that she was elated to have her child in her arms. Callie wasn't crying because she lost Sofia, she was crying because all of her manipulations and deceit came back and bit her in the ass!

For those who keep saying Arizona still is the bad guy for "Taking Sofia away from Callie", a lier, a bully and a cheater: 1. One of the reason Callie lost, is because she was mean. Her focus was to trash Arizona, while Arizona's focus was what's best for Sofia, and THAT is a good parent. 2. Callie didn't try to work it out. She had already made up her mind to leave, the only thing she tried to work out, was Arizona's visitations and which school for Sofia. Arizona went to court when the school from NY called her. 3. Callie does NOT have the right to move with their daughter. Legally Arizona is just as much as Sofia's mother as Callie. 4. Arizona had no choice but to take the custody away from Callie. 5. Callie is a cheater too, she cheated twice on Erica, and tecnhnically once on George. But That is all in the past and has nothing to do whether they are good parents or not. 6. When has Arizona lied? You have to refresh my memory, because I can't remember her ever doing that. Callie on the other hand has lied to Penny this season. 7. It matters more for Callie to be close to her girlfriend, than for Sofia to be close to her other mother. +TheJCappers Obviously, if Callie has no right to move with her daughter, then Arizona has no right to stay with her daughter while Callie leaves...Whether the daughter stays or moves is irrelevant: It's about WHO she's with... How is moving supposed to be devastating to one's life? I'd say moving is an ENRICHING experience to one's life, a rare opportunity. Many young kids are forced to move with their parents to new cities. Of course there is always homesickness, but they learn how to adapt to new situations, assist their parents in these difficult times, re-organise their lives, start afresh ;and develop important social and communication skills in order to make new friends! If Sofia moves, the skills and experience she takes will be invaluable to future work settings and family settings...She'll develop empathy, self-control, and putting others before herself. I'm not saying moving is more valuable than staying (people take in experiences differently) but moving is certainly not devastating to one's life! I will mention however, that Arizona's increased absences are somewhat concerning. Sofia has shown she hates it when she's dropped off at Meredith's, and Arizona has shown that she still needs time to find a soulmate, and Sofia may just be a bit of an inconvenience. Arizona will have to put Sofia first. In addition, the increased amount of emergency surgeries will mean she will have to put Sofia at Meredith's even more... Not really thinking of Sofia, is she?????? Callie knows that Arizona can't handle Sofia by herself; even if it was just for one year, being with two parents that have better control of their schedules would leave Sofia feeling less alone and less frustrated than being dropped off at someone else's home for plenty of nights.... Additionally, Callie would never had let her lawyer bring it to court if Arizona didn't halt all communication with Callie and ask her to "speak with her lawyer". This was the exact same day Callie wanted to meet up with Arizona to see how they could possibly arrange custody of Sofia, but Arizona felt that applying to New York schools ahead of time was a threat and meant she was about to kidnap Sofia.... Jumping to conclusions much? Why couldn't Arizona sit down with Callie and have a normal, adult discussion (like Callie requested)? Even if one answer was obvious to Arizona, a mature discussion allows Arizona to open her thoughts and explain her perspective to Callie, and vice versa, generating an increased understanding and empathy;(even if the decision would needed to be eventually settled in court). I don’t like Arizona. She put Callie through hell. Leaving her, Not wanting a baby, cheating, craziness over her leg. Since it was Sloan and Callie baby and she didn’t even like Sloan. Callie was being little rushed but she did try to talk to Arizona about options for the both of them. Arizona treated that as a threat and got lawyers involved. They both should have communicated more. Callie should have talked to Arizona before making any moves with the school and Arizona should have communicated her concerns and worked up some plan like Callie wanted.

For everyone saying Callie is going to ruined.. Arizona didn't want this!!!! She would love for her daughter to be with her other mother! Duh... I think Arizona will be with Sofia primarily for now but Callie is going to have her and stay in Seattle. The new episode shows Arizona telling Callie she messed up the flow of things with this custody battle. Neither party wanted this. It's not over. End of the day happy Sofia is home and Arizona gets to see her. And happy Callie is still there and not in New York!

This was the exact same day Callie wanted to meet up with Arizona to see how they could possibly arrange custody of Sofia, but Arizona felt that applying to New York schools ahead of time was a threat and meant she was about to kidnap Sofia.... Jumping to conclusions much? Why couldn't Arizona sit down with Callie and have a normal, adult discussion (like Callie requested)? Even if one answer was obvious to Arizona, a mature discussion allows Arizona to open her thoughts and explain her perspective to Callie, and vice versa, generating an increased understanding and empathy (even if the decision would needed to be eventually settled in court). As for Sofia, I agree that since Penny hasn't known her for too long, it wouldn't be ideal for Sofia to be forced to live with her. But between Callie and Arizona: They both love their daughter so much. I just wonder when Arizona needs to be called away for emergencies, who is her support system? Sofia seemed so angry for her mom leaving her at Meredith's... Perhaps Sofia would benefit more from an experience adapting to a move to New York with Callie; than feeling left out (even with her friends at home) and frustrated because she needs to be plopped at someone else's home when Arizona is needed, or because she still wants time to find a new soulmate at bars.

Az used that as an excuse to cheat on Callie... she put her morals over Aprils rights to tell Jackson that she is pregnant and now this ... even if I believe that she came to be a great mother... I hate that she has custody also Callie did not think about going with Penny untill Arizona told her to do.. which in her enthusiasm sounded to Callie that Arizona is okay with it and to take Sofia since she is the birth mother and couldn't imagine to leave Sofia behind... though I agree that Sofia might be better off staying in Seattle if they did intend to go there temporarly

I was, and it's obviously an unpopular opinion, on Callie's side here. Yeah, Callie was very quick to say "I'm moving cross country with my girlfriend" but honestly, Arizona did not even really try to stop her and talk to her about it. She heard that and was like "Aight, lemme just get a lawyer real quick". I mean... I do see both sides. But I am 100% convinced that Callie could have been reasoned with if Arizona just tried to talk to her. Letting it escalate into a full-blown custody battle that essentially wasn't good for Sofia either, was not the right way to go in my opinion. At least not that quick. If Callie hadn't been able to be reasoned with there, then sure. All power to you. But from personal experience, its always better to seek the conversation with the person you are not seeing eye to eye with than IMMEDIATELY running to a lawyer whenever something does not go your way.

Tbh if i was Callie's lawyer i would've tried establishing a pattern of emotional abuse on Arizona's end that could've been corroborated by Mark or Cristina. But sadly i don't think there would've been enough evidence unless they got Arizona to testify herself. Which is not the best strategy
