Hey, may I ask? 1) Are you familiar with Hongdian Black Forest? 2) I have such a writing style that my characters require thick upstrokes and thin downstrokes. I want to write with a fountain pen. Are there are special flex nibs for this or maybe there is a spexial method of using usual flex nibs but with a different orientation, angle etc...?

which kind of paper is best with calligraphy? and which nib is your top rated/ best selling?
@higherground7117 жыл бұрын
Very smooth paper is best so far as I've heard. Rhodia or any Japanese paper that's indicated as being smooth would probably work well with dip pens. Smooth paper is best mainly because you won't have paper fibers getting caught in the nib and to reduce feathering and rough and ragged lines.
@LittleAmyHe7 жыл бұрын
TJ - Miiverse I really adore Tomoe River Paper. It makes inks really pop and shiny inks extra shiny. It's super smooth, dense, durable, and thin (kind of like bible paper).
@JetPens7 жыл бұрын
We agree with James Barton's recommendations-- smooth paper works best for pointed pen calligraphy! Try Rhodia or Maruman Mnemosyne. Our top 3 selling nibs are the Speedball 101, the Brause Steno Blue Pumpkin, and Brause Extra Fine Arrow. If you want to learn about calligraphy, check out our Calligraphy Pen Basics guide! www.jetpens.com/blog/calligraphy-pen-basics/pt/689

Clairefontaine, Rhodia (which sources their paper from Clairefontaine). Tomoe River, etc. I suggest searching up the channel GouletPens because they are a small business and channel dedicated entirely to fountain pens.
@OzzyCoop5 жыл бұрын
I use Rhodia notebooks. Michael's Art Supply sells a nice spiral bound 8" book. It lays flat which is awesome for practicing and the paper is bleed and feathering free and bright white. Even my wide nibs that dump a ton of ink do not bleed or feather. The paper is so smooth that the ink does take a minute to dry though so you have to mindful of smearing but I write so slowly anyhow. Rhodia for practicing is my #1 go to.

Sorry i just start writing recently and i dont know much about nibs so i hope you dont mind telling me - Do you change the nibs often? I use the nikko g nib and i have to change the nib after a few days becaue it feels like it became less flexible. Wonder if it's normal to do so.. thank you
@JetPens3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Generally you shouldn't need to change your nibs that often. G nibs are straighter and stiffer than other nibs so that may be why it feels less flexible. If you feel that you're having trouble with your nib, we recommend checking out our nib troubleshooting guide: www.jetpens.com/blog/guide-to-fountain-pen-nibs-troubleshooting-tips-and-tricks/pt/777

If you can afford it, a Lamy Joy. A Pilot Parallel or Plumix are more affordable options. These are fountain pens, so there's no dipping.
