Random factoid: A common term for that massive juxtaposition between the cute anime girl aesthetic with the up-beat background against the morbid themes of the actual lyrics is "gap moe". "Moe" being Japanese and roughly translating to "cute". The meaning being that precisely because of the massive "gap" between what you get and how it is delivered, that's what makes it even more attractive.

You could tell by her older stuff she was heavily influenced by people like snoop and Eminem and was a lot more raunchy. People comparing it to the Gorrilaz are pretty on the money, working in the confines of a character can be restricting but can also force you to be more creative in your writing Vtubers are basically improve artist, they play a character that is just an exaggerated form of themselves. Works on the same level of the attachment to a fictional character while being as genuinely they can be without breaking the illusion. They use facial tracking software for the 2D avatar to mimic them on screen while they play games, sing, draw etc.

one thing is to be noted of her bubbly flow, she is an idol above all else. like, she was hired by hololive for her skills, but her actual job tittle is "idol" more than "rapper", that's why she encourages remixes of her songs and showcase em in her streams. edit: i should say "recruited" rather than "hired" since hololive is more of a management company, and every girl has a certain level of freedom on their content. 20+ girls doing shenanigans on the internet , all capable of singing and dancing while portraying the "pure girl" image. how they portray that its their choice, from a rabbit with weird laughter to Mori who's a "death reaper apprentice" that decided to slay people with her lyrics, and even a dragon girl that loves to say "m*th*rf*ck*rs"

@Daikurobaraokami3 жыл бұрын
I wanted to avoid mentioning "hired" because I'm not 100% sure how hololive works as a company. In the simplest of way, the girls create content and the company cashes in on a percentage used for promo and events to further develop the company. But given how things look, the girls are the ones bringing in the numbers by theirs own content, maybe given certain paths and instructions as to what to do and not to do to not hinder with each other's content. So on that perspective, Hololive other than providing the avatars what does is cash in, promo and HR management? Again, not sure how the operate, thus avoided the "hired" side of things. I personality think Mori is an awesome content creator with or without hololive.
@MugenHeadNinja3 жыл бұрын
Actually, Mori was rapping before she became an idol, so sure, her job atm is being an idol, be she was a rapping first and will likely still make music after she retires from being an idol.
@Dfso200x3 жыл бұрын
i want this at the top comment. this kinda explains the "bubbly" part, since is part of the theme around them. Want it or not, Hololive would keep their idols looking nice (that is why you wouldn't hear a full on diss track from her, at least not one that is not an inside joke for fans or something similar). Also, she also raps pretty well when working outside Hololive, but that is basically a different artist
@CrescentSickle3 жыл бұрын
You asked about her being a "program" or something, but not quite. Virtual KZbinr was a term that got coined around Kizuna Ai, a mo-capped 3D avatar voiced by an actual person (and then multiple people later). The concept of Kizuna Ai - the character that is - is that she was an AI that was broadcasting on KZbin. This wasn't actual deceit, just a character story for viewers to buy into if they wanted. Now pretty much any KZbinr that has a stand-in avatar (3D model or 2D art or otherwise, with some neat 2.5D rigging having come out in recent years) is considered a vtuber, and many - though definitely not all - also play as characters with their own backstory for viewers to buy into. Everyone knows they're not actually those characters, but it's a great cross between a genuinely entertaining content creator and interacting with a fun fantasy character at the same time. A lot of the avatars of the most popular vtubers are in the Japanese anime art style, but that's because most of the most popular vtubers on the platform are either from Japan or are tied to agencies from Japan, such as Hololive. Quick aside about idol culture though, since that's also important context re: Hololive. "Idols" extend beyond just people that have a ton of fans for their music, at least in Japan and Korea. It also extends to a kind of "pure" perspective, where the idol is cute and innocent and wholesome and heart-warming, and they don't have any issues or problems that otherwise plague the rest of the world. This can and has caused a lot of toxic culture around idols as well, since a lot of fans can get really creepy and fucked up about it, and even harass their favorite idols because they found out that she had a boyfriend or something. Hololive as a company is trying to take the best parts of the idol culture (i.e. cute girls doing cute things that are really heart-warming to watch, as well as music, typically J-Pop and other culturally popular songs) with virtual youtubers to result in "virtual idols". It's a lot easier for the idols if that toxic culture forms, because they have a degree of anonymity and don't have to be in physical proximity to shitty fans like during concerts and the like. What Hololive and these other agencies have learned is that people like it best when these "idols" just drop the act and are just themselves. They still have their character backstories they play into, of course, but they're still actual people and can cut loose, laugh at dumb jokes, and shitpost with the rest of us.

This includes her being up for 36 hours between streams and working on music. She has also said on stream that the last part is kind of a look at the inside of her head when she streams or writes. Definitely suggest you hear Cursed Night. She doesn't go nearly as hard, but it's heavy lyrically and an amazing track in my opinion. As a side note, her 4 song EP went #1 worldwide on itunes charts. I wanna give a small description of her songs, idk if you’ll read a long comments buuut: RIP for me - The main most popular song, it’s just good all around. Dead Beats, this one - The fast pace meme-y song. Reaper Ka Rapper - This one is more like an introductory rap, even the beat is more beatboxed. It’s mainly for fun, not serious. Live Again - Kinda like a love song and like her theme song, a lot different from the first two. Cursed Night - A more emotional, serious song. One for like getting stuff off your chest, I really like this one. Demondice is actually Calli before she was a VTuber, she’s not able to shout out her old channel due to her new persona, but she did music here as well, as well as actual animations. If you wanna see her old stuff, Alkatraz - a fully animated and rapped about a story of three inmates of Alkatraz prison with some creative liberties.

Her other 2 songs, "Live Again" and "Cursed Night" are honestly my favourites from her so check those out if you get the time. She's fast approaching 900k subs at this point and wouldn't be surprised if she hits 1mil soon after.
@TheFrostedfirefly3 жыл бұрын
Just to clarify, "Kokoro Beats" makes her music for her. She's referring to her singing talents when she says "music's hard" because she's only really confident in her rapping, not the other stuff.
@RosemaryShinbuki3 жыл бұрын
@@TheFrostedfirefly ?? I thought she does the remixing and those stuff cuz she said she's learning how to make tracks but K-san is the who usually finishes it and make it more finer.
@Wolfkey133 жыл бұрын
She just hit 900k a few hours ago.
@TheFrostedfirefly3 жыл бұрын
@@RosemaryShinbuki She's learning herself but K-san does most of the lifting when it comes to the beats.

To me the "rapping's easy, music's hard" is more on the sense that making rap is easy, but making good rap is where the challenge is.

As a pure noob in rap music, I like how your breakdown gave me a clearer picture why I liked the song. Like a master barrista teaching what to look for in a good cup of coffee. Thanks for the video. Welcome to the rabbit hole.

V-tubers are actual people who do YT content (but mainly livestreaming games, events, occasionally releasing songs) behind 2D avatars. Since they don't want to show their faces, they use a 2D body that tracks their face movements or body movements. The program mainly used for 2D live avatars is called Live2D.

I think what she meant by 'rap is easy. making music is hard' is that it is easy to rhyme words together, but it is hard to make it flow and mesh with the beat perfectly

To explain how the whole vtuber thing works: There is an animated "2D" anime avatar rigged via a program called "Live 2D" to react to the real person's movements and mouth speech. The avatar can change expressions (sad, happy, angry etc.) via a number of keyboard shortcuts.
