When I first tried flying in Arma I kept nose diving into the ground so I gave up LOL Then I saw your original landing guides and changed up my controls. Now I get compliments on my landings every game I fly in and I think I'm one of the better known pilots on RHS. Thanks for making such great guides!

I was a helicopter fan ever since I bought Arma 3. I never played Arma 2 and had no clue how to fly. I used to fly with my keyboard, but the movement was... poor. Then I started looking for good tutorials and of course for a joystick. When I watched your first video and copied your keybindings and actually started practicing on the editor for a couple hours every day, my skills improved automatically. I must say that I am still bad (at least in my opinion), but I'm trying to improve my skills by simply training and trying to get better every day. All of this started with your video, so... Thank you very much! I'm surely happy about my progress and because of you I didn't have to spend any money on an expensive joystick. Now I've been practicing for about 1,5 week and actually tried to make some videos of my landings just to be able to take a look at them in the future. If you could take a look at them and MAYBE, just maybe, give me some advice I would highly appreciate it! Thank you and have a good landing!

Hey Ayitos mate! That's such an awesome story. So many ppl had really mixed reactions to my bindings, but it's great to hear you kept sticking at it. I've watched your video, and I have to say you're doing brilliantly. One thing I'd try and get better at is your take offs. You seem to fly directly over the AO a bit slower than you'd like to. I would ramp this up and try and get faster at getting out of there. If I was on the ground, I'd have no problem shooting you out when you take off. Keep up the piloting!! -Tommeh

Have to add about choosing lz's. Typically lz's behind the enemy lines lack ground information. A risk to you and the people you are dropping off. It also depends on the map, Kavala always has a high concentration north while the west is typically quite. So know how the map flows and changes. Choosing behind the line lz's is okay, just be aware of who you are carrying. A group of level 4 will die within minutes behind the lines, versus a group of lvl 50 who can do quite a bit of damage to enemies unaware of a flank.
@ragabara10316 жыл бұрын
Oftentimes there are no lines in the AO - factions can simply form blobs and hold one particular area. At that point some decent recon is required to figure out where the enemies cannot reach so an LZ can be decided upon. This is often complicated by the presence of enemy snipers outside the AO.
@CallMehTOMMEH6 жыл бұрын
This is a great point, really important. Thank you for raising this. Can't believe I forgot about levels, but yes, if you have all level 10's and below and you're landing in a risky area, you better be damn sure it's safe for them. Some level 50's+ might be able to clutch their way out of a bad landing and run to cover, so this is another point to keep vigilant on when flying in KOTH. And @ragabara another excellent issue there. That is the real impracticality of war in a sense. Not knowing everything. All helped by VOIP communication of course though.

Nice flying. I have a question though. Can i stop the leveling out of the cyclic movement (i hope it makes sense..) when i cycle forward, the heli starts going level ever so slightly, meaning i must correct that with more mouse movement. Is that adjustable in settings so that i do not have to keep runnign out of mousepad on the flight towards the ao?
@CallMehTOMMEH5 жыл бұрын
I see what you mean. So what you need to do is either buy a bigger mousepad, or learn to bleed your speed with the X key (cyclic up) first so you don't have to rely so much on your mouse mat. Alternatively you can learn to centre your mouse even mid flight, I used to do this back when I had really tiny mousepads

@roberthance11876 жыл бұрын
A skilled VTOL pilot he is... However, felix has a tendency to bully other pilots around at base, blowing up friendly vehicles even. Numerous times he's come to land at spawn right on top of my heli, forcing me to get out of the way of the giant blackfish. I try to be respectful and work together with other pilots, maintain some etiquette at base, he doesn't.
@CallMehTOMMEH6 жыл бұрын
Hmm, interesting @Robert Hance. Will have to watch out for that. Some of the pilots in KOTH can be quite elitist and into that bully culture as you said. Eitherway, the admins are fairly easy to get in contact with if you need an issue sorted.
@felixs97226 жыл бұрын
@@roberthance1187 Yeah my bad, but I'm not doing it on purpose. It's really hard to be consistent with the blackfish when combat landing, so it'll slide a little too far sometimes. It's true sometimes I expect others to move out of my way but only if I really cant move myself, I do the same when I'm the smaller heli. And you know I always offer a new heli anytime I blow one up on accident Those things are big and clumsy, sorry for not always having perfect control. I'm a lot better than last week already.
@roberthance11876 жыл бұрын
I appreciate you expressing that it wasn't your intention. Sometimes I just shrug those things off, other times it instantly kills the mood for me and I may take note of the pilots name lol ;) I wasn't trying to say that you were flat out being a dick like some guys. Typically I try to avoid bitching on the coms or reporting, I'd rather pretend it didn't happen and just switch teams or something just in hopes to stay the mood of flying and not making a negative thing out of it. It's pretty psychological for me... I can be pumped up and ready to play all day, then the first thing I hear in the coms can cause me to shut down my computer and go fishing.

Do I understand correctly that the pitch-up key landing ("X"/J-Hook) is not possible with a HOTAS setup?
@CallMehTOMMEH6 жыл бұрын
You do...kind of. With a HOTAS setup you'd be applying that same principle to your joystick usage. So for example, you'd be pulling back hard to perform a J-HOOK landing. Alternatively, you could bind pitch up to a secondary button that's easy to press on your joystick.
@CZiNTrPT6 жыл бұрын
@@CallMehTOMMEH ah, so the extra pitch up hotkey is just a kind of extra forceful 'S'/normal up?
@CallMehTOMMEH6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you've got it! So my main philosophy is control speed. I can pull back on the mouse and run out of mouse mat space, and you could keep pulling back on the joystick, but its much more efficient to streamline this important binding into something direct and quick for those really tight bleed flares.
@CZiNTrPT6 жыл бұрын
@@CallMehTOMMEH to be honest, took me almost a year to get it. I learned about this technique last year from your old video, but never managed to quite pull it off. after a year of flying, I think I'm a way better pilot now. But today I still couldn't to it without crashing heli getting hard to control (and then crashing in a house). Now with your clarification and some experimentation, I finally figured it out and want so share this one crucial detail: You also have to have your collective in neutral, instead of pulling on it, while turning! Only right at the end you slightly push it down of course, to land. Because I saw in your video, that while turning you also don't press W/S. My mistake was to always pulling on the collective while turning, put Arma seems to help you more to stay in the air if you have collective on neutral (at least in SFC). Thanks!

So what's the difference between the Hummingbird and the M-900? Is it just the skin?

The M-900 flies MUCH worse than the Hummingbird. More clunky

every time i go to land i blow up is this a case of hitting the floor to hard or going to fast, and do you fly using advance or normal flying as i have tried advanced and cant get my head round it.
@CallMehTOMMEH6 жыл бұрын
So you have to be below 30kmph or you will be blowing up, and I use the normal mode. The advanced one is for joystick peeps lol
