Thank you so much! 1 year later and this is only tutorial I can find that actually works and goes through every detail of the setup process! I had watched a lot of tutorials and went through a ton of forums but could never get it working. I learned from this video that I didn't setup hard linking correctly and my permissions weren't right. Edit: I had to go through and read TRaSH’s guide and he had some more information about how things work with permissions and hard linking and now everything is working

The best guide out there. Started from scratch... new Proxmox, VM Ubuntu, ZFS using CLI, Samba, Portainer and now your setup with Sonarr, Radar, Jacket, qbittorrent. Only thing left is to setup a VPN docker - I used Gluetun and it worked to move all my traffic through the PIA VPN. It is worth noting that rather than setup container IP's I simply used the Gluetun container address. For those having path issues with double torrent folder (so many versions & options), simply change the qbittorrent container to only use .../data... and don't append the torrent folder. Decades ago, this was one PC one Application. Love how quickly you can setup a full environment.

great video! thank you. :) I know I'm late to the game, but I have one question... If I set things up this way, are the files downloaded to my tiny host operating system drives? If I want them to instead download to my TRUEnas array, should I instead mount a data pool/set and then set up the directories of Media, Torrents, Usenet, and then add TV, Movies, and Music under those directories? Or, do we set it up like in the video, set our downloader like sabnbz to download into the TRUEnas, and then the containers on the small disks just hard-link to the downloaded data?

Excellent guide! How would you modify this setup if you want the folder structure on a mount? In other words, if instead of /portainer/ being on my boot disk, if I want it in a different location, on a mounted disk? Can it be done in one setting or would you need to update the volume mapping per container?
@AwesomeOpenSource Жыл бұрын
Setup your mount point first, then give the path to the mount in your docker stack, in the portainer setup, or in your compose file. Make that path the left side of the volume mapping.

I just came across this video and I love this idea because it will allow me to "cut the cord". I have no clue about Linux, or any of the applications you are using in this video. I want to set this up and I'm wondering if you're using the free version of Portainer. I am assuming, and I know what happens when I assume, that the the rest of the applications are free. Also, do I have to run these in a virtual machine, or can I just install Linux and run them directly from the OS? If I can run directly from the OS, can I follow the video to set it up, or will there be a different way to set up everything? Thank you in advance for your help in this.
@AwesomeOpenSource Жыл бұрын
I do run the free version of Portainer, and each of these applications is open source, so you can use them at not cost as well. You will want to run them in docker, the way we show them here, but you don't have to have a VM to run docker on. You can run it right from your main OS. Linux is not a requirement, as docker can run in Windows and MacOS. These instructions may be a little different if you use those, but should be about the same regardless.

Can Docker or Portainer run on bare metal?

Docker runs on bare metal, portainer then runs in docker to help you setup and manage other containers in docker.
@maikinmoves2 жыл бұрын
Greatly appreciate the time you put into these videos, and the encouragement of early balding. TL:DR - Can't get access to existing media on myTrueNas Share. I have docker/portainer running on a dedicated virtualized ubuntu server, I have a few containers running, including one for my VPN and I have Qbittorrent linked to that for the network which so far seems to work for downloading. I also have a separate TrueNas 12 core running with 30tb of storage that includes a few shared directories for media that I have mounted into my Ubuntu server with fstab and under media directory. I can not figure out how to get those volumes into Qbit. And trying to figure out what the real advantage is to doing it this way through docker, instead of a dedicated ubuntu VM or even alpine vm if i feel adventurist.
@AwesomeOpenSource2 жыл бұрын
You need to map those volumes to the qbit torrent data location you created. So if you have them mounted at /mnt/truenas/mesdia, and inside media you have folders for tv, movies, music, books, you'd map that to Qbit like -v /mnt/truenas/media:/data Then use the QBit UI to map the folders... you may even want to map one directory back to just /mnt/truenas and then have a "torrent" folder in there for the torrents.

@AwesomeOpenSource3 жыл бұрын
I haven't done it, but essentially just install deluge instead of QBitTorrent, and then setup the folder for the downloads in deluge just like we did in the qbittorrent configuration portaion. In Sonarr, you'll want to setup the downloader to be deluge instead as well, and then test to make sure it can link to deluge and start your downloads. the alternative to all that is to setup a VPN container, get it running, then change all of the containers to run on that container's network. Essentially in Portainer, you go into each container, edit it, and in the UI for the network setting, change it from bridge, or whatever network it's set too, and select Container, then in the next dropdown select the VPN container. Deploy the new setup, and now the torrent, sonarr, jackett, etc will all work through the VPN container connection.

I really dont know why you have separate folders within the Torrents folder {movies, tv, music}. Qbittorrent is not getting information to download movies to the respective subfolder and although it's downloaded, it's in the directory torrents directly and can't be found by radarr to move to the media folder. It says for example: [Error] DownloadedMovieImportService: Import failed, path does not exist or is not accessible by Radarr: /data/movie But of course, /data/movie does not exist, since it is in /data/torrents. Even then, according to your setup, it shouldnt even be in /data/torrents, but in /data/torrents/movies. So real mess with this setup, or Im doing something wrong? Ill try to set up the media folder properly, but have all downloads in 1 folder /data/torrents since it's writing the data fine, im assuming the permissions and ownership are fine. Although it's a ntfs mount on my homeserver with root ownership.

hi for some reason i am getting unable to connect to indexer error even though jacke,t is running ?
@AwesomeOpenSource2 жыл бұрын
Double check the port. If you are using the name for the address, change it to the Docker IP. If that doesn’t work try the host IP. I’ve seen it be successful all three ways at different times.

@@fiqabumm1 ok, next step is check the logs for sonarr. You want to check the Docker logs, so if you have Portainer this is the easiest way.

Did you ever come up with a workable solution for using qBittorrent on something other than port 8080?
@AwesomeOpenSource3 жыл бұрын
No, just left it there.

You have to change the webui_port to match and also likely set your browser to allow that port - each one has a different procedure

@@AwesomeOpenSource yep set the environment "-e WEBUI_PORT=1234" and for ports then "1234:1234" in the container settings. Instantly works

most of the indexers of jackett are blocked in my country, will you please show how to setup proxy / vpn using portainer ?
@AwesomeOpenSource3 жыл бұрын
Let me work on it and see what I can come up with.

I would like you to show that too. The proxy / VPN setup as my ISP Spectrum flags torrent downloads.

Have you considered also uploading (specifically guides like this) in an alternative website like Odysee? Yt might not mind now but the more popular your channel becomes the more risk there is of having the videos taken down. Another channel I really like (Mental Outlaw) is doing the same after he was trying to explain Torrtns.

I have, but there are weeks where I barely get this site updated with a new video. I'm getting some help this summer on editing, so I'm hoping I can expand a bit.

i dont dont get it why all those many steps to download a buch of torrents . showrss is does that for you
@AwesomeOpenSource2 жыл бұрын
It's not about downloading torrents. The ...Arr probgrams are media organization apps, and with large libraries, are a tremendously good way to get your media organized.
