I have a quick tip if it's ok; if you use beeswax pastilles, it's easy to measure out the 1/4 you need for every 1 cup of oil and they can be heated together in the same pot. I love that you put such loving intention into your remedies; the sign of a good Green Witch. Plantain is SO great for skin issues.

Plantain she is referring to is either plantago lanceolata or plantago major. They grow in grassy areas. Here in California its abundant and considered a weed, just like dandelion. It's convenient if you get a scrape, just pick a leaf, emulsify in your mouth and slap in on your wound. 😀

Oh my gosh! Plantago major! I had no idea of its healing properties. As a child, I used to collect them in a basket and strip the seeds to make my own "potions and lotions" as I called them. Of course, olive oil is a much nicer carrier than the mud I used as a child. haha. Thank you for all you do, Annie.

I'm guessing that's plantain leaves like the vegetable, similar to banana leaves. The plantain used in the salve is Plantago major, commonly considered a weed in lawns. That's one of the troubles of using common names--they can refer to multiple things.

As I understand it, intent is a key element to any spell. This morning I came across a these lines in Stanton Davis Kirkham's book Where Dwells the Soul Serene and thought them appropriate. "We shall cast the potent spell of thought over this world in solution, and out of it shall crystallize the objects of our true desire." And then I came back to re-watch several of your spell videos. They're absolutely wonderful.

This is the way I taught myself how to do my homemade saves and butter, but my great grandmother used to do them, but her house burned down and I had to go by what my mom's mother taught her and my great aunt which is my mother's mom sister, my great aunt she's 82 now and she can walk outside and tell you every little different type of plants and for what and what you can eat and use in different ways cause she lived in the depression years and it was really hard for them growing up. Nice job on this one. I might try to give this one a whirl. The green leaves you are using are what we would feed our rabbits, they are also good for healing like deep cuts, redness, and the itch that comes with the healing process later, just when warmed up and squeezed. I infuse these in orange peels for the vit. c with the inner parts of mango for the softness benefits. I think these plantain leaves are what is in most store-bought creams or like the lamb ears, I live here in WV and they are everywhere. I def. want to check your other anti-anxiety salve out, that sounds really really nice.

Not gonna lie but when she said plantain leaves my thought went to the banana like plant leaves I’m used to from other countries. So I’m kinda confused since they don’t grow where she is from. I will now go and do some research to figure out if I need to substitute or if I can get the leaves she used. Can’t wait to make this as who couldn’t add some calm to life these days. Hello Annie, You videos are wonderfull, I love watching them and gain knowledge and wisdom from you. You are one of my favorite witches. :) I hope I don't disturb you or something, but lately, or for some while actually, I had a problem with my self confidence as a witch, I belive in myself as a witch for maybe day and the other I wake up and my mind is like: you aren't doing enough as a witch, you don't have the rights to call yourself a witch And things like that, but actually, I'm doing everyday practices like talking to my plants, doing tea magic, burning incences with intentions, meditating ect and then not everyday, but i do cleanse and charge crystals, color magic, herbal baths, ect... I personally think its phase and it will go eventually away (I hope, I'm working to be more confident and self conscious) So i want to ask you if you have some tips? Because you are experienced witch, so I wanted to ask you. (I do practice witchcraft for probably 3 years (soon I will be 17 years old) so I'm probably still a begginer in some ways) I really hate being like this, because I can feel this blocking my power, focus and then even my spells to be successful. I'm one more time sorry for disturbing you, but I hope you will have some tips for me and other witches who struggle with this problem. Thank you very much for reading this and I love you :)

Annie, have you read Braiding Sweetgrass yet? I was reminded of you in a passage where she describes "species loneliness". She describes the sensation of being in a new geographical area and how difficult it is to not have a connection to the local flora and fauna. If you haven't read the book yet, I highly recommend it. Its lovely. I make a calendula salve that I love. Next time I'll add the lavender, lemon, and chamomile. Can't wait o to try your version!

A really great and abundant wild herb here in Europe that's a fantastic substitute for plantain is yarrow (achillea millifolium). It has great wound healing properties and my personal correspondence I always associate with yarrow is strength, protection, and fortification of boundaries and energy (I like to use a yarrow flower essence when I'm having a hard time maintaining my boundaries or I feel other people's energy is bleeding into mine). You can almost always find yarrow growing along rivers or even along sides of roads.

Can't wait to try making the plantain salve in the spring after the snow melts as I have a ton of it in my backyard! Seems like it would be perfect for my hands as they are always covered with tiny scratches from my bird's feet 😅 Question - I've seen some other herbalist resources that caution against infusing raw herbs as the water content can cause spoilage? It seems to me like one of those possibly overkill things that our foremothers didn't ever worry about lol, but it's put me off a bit from making anything unless I have dried herbs on hand. Have you ever noticed any issues doing the plantain infusion that way?

Wonderful recipe! I found broadleaf plantain seeds on amazon, and the plant grows in USDA zones 3-9, so that includes most of the continental US (just some very southern borders that are too hot are excluded). I'm going to contact my local nursery and see if she has any resources on getting some fully grown plants rather than started from seeds. It's also native to most of Europe and parts of Asia. So hopefully a lot of people will have access. Some etsy shops sell dried leaves as well, which is really good for recipes like this.

Hey there! Shea butter isn't a great substitute because they do different things, but it wouldn't ruin your salve. Give it a try and see if you like it! :)

This was so inspiring, thankyou. I'm hoping I have Plantain locally, will be checking or finding a good alternative.

Hello. Thank you for your awesome tips. I've a question: how do you manage to clean the jar in which you let the wax melt?
