I've been listening to the FFX soundtrack for as long as KZbin existed and before, and for some reason I just discovered this video. Gotta say this is the best cover of Calm before the Storm I've ever heard, I feel like some parts are even better than the original, like from 2:21 until the end. And beside some orchestral versions, I can say that I never felt this way about any cover of FFX ever. Good job !

Very well played! I learned the whole composition several years ago, and now I'm learning it once again. Even if I played it pretty well back then, I never played it flawlessly. Hope I do at least once. If I do succeed, only then I'll consider buying microphones to record myself. Very nice video editing by the way!
@JorjMakesMusic2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, and good luck with the relearning and recording! Totally recommend recording as a motivating goal when learning :)
Very good arrangement (all of the guitar's subtle harmony seems to be here!) and excellent playing. Hard to do rubato well with a piece like this because the guitars are meant to sound like a consistent pulse, like a bed of sound-but you manage to make it work by having it be a gentle push and pull, like rocking a baby, or being on a calm ocean. One of the best performances of this on KZbin, but it not being on a good acoustic piano hurts it slightly.
@JorjMakesMusic3 жыл бұрын
Hugely appreciate this chief, and so glad you enjoyed it! The leaps make the constant pulse so hard to follow, so I'm happy you think the rubato came across well. :) And completely agree, it's a shame about the audio. Just wish I had the space/money for an acoustic piano; it's the dream! Though I did upgrade the audio with a better piano VST a while back which you can check here if you like: drive.google.com/drive/folders/0Bz1dQrpqT2_od0c4eTlpVVZObUU Thanks again!

Awesome cover ! Only a few covers of this song on yt and you are one of the bests, surely. If you're still active on your channel, I would love to get some tips to use right pedale the better way to learn this song ! :) I'm a beginner but trying hard since a couple weeks on this master piece (I'm actually at the octaves part), and I think I don't use the pedale as well as it needs.
@JorjMakesMusic6 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! All I could say to help with this piece is just to make sure you're raising and lowering the pedal on the first beat of the new bar, ensuring it's done within one note press. Feel free to take more time on the first notes of the bar if you're struggling to do that movement before the following quaver beat. It does take a lot of practise for it to sound natural, my pedalling sounded super robotic when I first got to grips with it so just keep it at it and you'll get it in time! Hope that helps :)
