It's one of those "nice to have, but we can't afford it" fantasy castles. How many walls and moats can one have? Constantinople had 3 walls and a moat, but only on the western side for a length of about 3.5 miles.

an ancient fortress on Aeraldan appears peaceful in this holograph... the walls and bastions, maintained for millennia for historical purposes, actually saved a large portion of the population during the first encounter with the Scrix... during an early scouting mission, the Scrix landed on the grasslands planet of Aeraldan... encountering humans for the first time, the Scrix believed them to be easy targets... though they lived on a planet free of strife and war, the aeraldan's were a hardy people and they fought back with everything they had, using their fortress cities to fend off the attack... the Scrix were defeated but would return at a later date...
