Great video! How do you like the Evict? I just got one and am a little underwhelmed.. seems noisy and grindy. Maybe I just got a bad one?
@JohnSkinnerFishing17 күн бұрын
I live on the evict 2000, including big tarpon in florida in the kayak. When I fish the florida flats boat or yak I have between 5 and 7 of them on the boat. It's all I use for spin jigging up north. Rock solid stainless gears at a very fair price.

I’m finding the SeaBass fishing way off this year, I have a deep wreck that normally produces a quick limit of 18+ fish, that spit up Mantis Shrimp, that spot is empty this year ? I remember your videos last year you were killing them. Thanks.

Hello John! Thoroughly enjoy watching your videos! Question, what is the purpose of bleeding fish out prior to placing on ice? Thanks! GregT Greenville SC
@JohnSkinnerFishing22 күн бұрын
It gets the blood out of the meat. When you fillet the fish, it's a very clean white fillet. Once you do it, you never go back.

Hey John do you have a theory about the a Albies not showing up this year?
@JohnSkinnerFishing22 күн бұрын
No clue. The last time I saw this was behind hurricane Irene (2012?) when it dumped an incredible amount of dirty water into the sound from the Ct. rivers when the albies should have been coming in. We had a storm that flooded the rivers this year in early September too, but it didn't wreck the water quality the way Irene did. That's the only thing I can think of, and I doubt that was it. I think we'll see a few albies in November.

Definitely a strange start to the fall, October I’m ussually fishing a deep channel just inside of an inlet that has tons of bunker, adult and peanuts, mullet, snappers, spearing, mud minnows, just about any bait u can name, and this year there’s been just about nothing under them had a few slot fish and one over slot going into the full moon and than nothing for 2 weeks after until I heard about the sandeels on the ocean, so I went out front and found a rediculous amount of sandeels and still couldn’t find a thing for 3 straight trips until finally some fish moved back in earlier this week, had one day where there was some a bunch of slot fish with some over slots up to about 20lbs, the day after the beach was very rough and windy and had a very good abundance of slot fish but didn’t see any over slots beached, than the wind blew a ton of sea weed in and killed the bite by the next day. standing on the sand bar getting beaten by waves made me realize how warm the water still is tho so fingers crossed theres still a lot of fish that need to move down the coast that will offer plenty more opportunity. Quick suggestion from someone that also snap jigs, don’t drop that rod tip so fast after snapping up, I know ur trying to let that jig settle back down and get into hookset position but that slack will kill ya on hookups as u can see, try and drop a little slower and follow the jig down with the rod tip a little more and see if that improves you bite to hookup ratio

Culture is a funny thing. We have a species of fish here in New Zealand called banded wrasse, they look very similar to your blackfish and are in the same family (Labridae), yet few would dream of fishing for them or eating them. For want of a better description and although I hate the term, they are regarded as "trash fish". Yet we regard gurnard (sea robins) very highly! When I spent time on Long Island, I was so obsessed with striped bass that I was barely aware of any other species apart from bluefish.
@JohnSkinnerFishing22 күн бұрын
When I was a kid almost no one had any use for blackfish. Now they're targeted heavily.
@Darth-Betta22 күн бұрын
In South Korea, they have a fish very much like toutog/blackfish called HokDom, and they are also regarded as "trash" fish. 🙂
@chrishall95323 күн бұрын
You better sharpen your hook skinner
@JohnSkinnerFishing22 күн бұрын
They're as sharp as pins. I think the spot has had too much pressure and there are a lot of short sea bass smacking the jig. Last few seasons most were keepers.
