These comment sections are fucking cancerous. Don't read any of it. Half of the people have absolutely no idea about anything relating to the history of Electronic music. I'd rather see Harris create weird Acid tracks than boring, lifeless EDM drop garbage.

To add: The fact that a comment stating "This sucks and sounds so unprofessional" has over 136 likes is just laughable. It shows such a clear lack of knowledge of any genre other than the media-constructed "EDM" term and insults the thousands of producers who came before Calvin who helped craft the House, Deep House, Techno sound etc. All those genres would mean nothing to the people who say this "sounds unprofessional". They can fuck right off.

I actually like this... brings me back to the old school days of Calvin Harris where he would make music like this. It's pretty obvious that some of you are newcomers and just follow the typical mainstream pop-music Calvin Harris. He's trying to mix it up a bit; I would definitely like to see more of this. Welcome back old school Calvin!

iLLAYT commercial music is that god awful Garrix-y festival EDM shite that literally is all the same song with small variances in each track that's made to be famous for about a week just by making it sound fucking loud and horrible so it can be played on shitty car radios and has the same ideas regurgitated until the market is run dry. This track, however, contrasts with his usual stuff that is definitely made to be played on the radio in a car and not really listened to and is actually made to be appreciated properly.

Calvin Harris drops another radio-friendly house/EDM/dance-pop song: everyone listens to it like no tomorrow and gives it so much praise. Calvin Harris drops an interlude-esque track of a different genre: everyone goes apeshit and starts saying "this isn't Calvin Harris, this is not his type of music, Daft Punk did this first, etc." It doesn't matter who did this kind of music first. Sure, Daft Punk are very well known for their early french house music off Homework, and the acid house genre is one of those genres that are rather underground and more known from the Internet rather than from the radio. So what? Calvin Harris made an acid house/French house track which is different from his radio-friendly tracks which everyone goes nuts over. Big whoop. Acid house is a great genre, and a lot of the acid house songs that are made can be similar to this one. The synth pattern that you may hear from Daft Punk's Homework era in this song doesn't make this song a blatant copy of Daft Punk. If the song uses french house material, it doesn't mean it's copying Daft Punk or anyone else. Give Calvin a break. Songs from 18 Months such as Mansion, School, and Green Valley are like Slow Acid. Different from the rest of the album, but still instrumental and used more as a prelude or interlude track. This isn't new for Calvin. This isn't new for anyone. It isn't experimental, nor is it a song from a genre dominated by a certain artist. Welcome to the fucking music industry.

You can't really call yourself a real fan if you hate this song just because it doesn't sound like every other club anthem that gets churned out. If you go back and actually listen to his first album "I Created Disco" you'd see that this is the kinda stuff that he did a lot and what got him to where he is now. I was a massive fan of his first album, his new stuff isn't my favourite but I love this new track as it isn't just catered towards the douchey crowds of Ibiza. Theres a difference between a track being actually shit and then just being different to what you like.

I was worried when he released Blame with John Newman that he had turned into a 2010 David Guetta, only pumping out chart friendly songs and raking in millions. But now it's clear that he's been working on something new and something more relevant to his own style. Good to see he hasn't become obsessed with only releasing number ones!

Matěj Horák The old Calvin is doing his own thing. Disco. Those all you said above are the radio friendly, money & fame generated Calvin, when he did collabs with the flavor of the day. This one, sounds more like old electronic/acid house Calvin trying to explore. Definitely not today festival/club/radio friendly. But i prefer this over his other recent releases.

Going through the comments of this video it reminded me of a comment on tim bergs alcoholic. Music like this without lyrics is too complex for the average person. Most people here say they need lyrics to understand but it makes enough sense already. Also fuck the term edm. Edm is not everything electronic. 80's disco is what calvin did a few times. But he always did variants of house. This one sounds more progressive techno house and the music video suits the song really well

While it's great to hear something a bit different from Harris, this particular track is hopefully just a bit of a "tribute" to other artists in this genre rather than trying to branch and claim this sound as his own. As others have mentioned, the similarities to NiN are undeniable, and I would go even further by throwing Daft Punk (especially 'Da Funk') and The Prodigy's 'You'll Be Under My Wheels' as undeniable "inspiration" for this track.
@PhillipTyson
@PhillipTyson 10 жыл бұрын
***** "a bit different", not 100% different. If you consider someone someone who goes to the trouble of writing a paragraph-long comment about an artist's work not a fan, then that's entirely up to you. As a Calvin Harris fan, I was simply stating that this is a bit of a departure from his most successful stuff, i.e. 'Acceptable In The 80s' 'Ready For The Weekend', 'Bounce', 'Feel So Close', 'Sweet Nothing', 'Dance Wiv Me'. Its similarities to other artists much more well-known for this style of music is clearly noticeable.

I wouldn't say that this sounds like Daft Punk or Prodigy. As the song's name says this sounds ACID. It has an undeniable TB303 bassline that's been used by Daft Punk, Prodigy and so many more before. Acid sound is refusing to die, even so many years after the TB303 was born it sounds so awesome as always. I a producer so mainstream and commercial as Calvin Harris still uses it gotta mean something...
@PhillipTyson
@PhillipTyson 10 жыл бұрын
***** well you learn something new every day. I just finished watching a doco on the TB-303 (by the way I love that TB stands for Transistorized Bass) prior to which I knew nothing about, let alone how influential it had been (despite being aware of a lot of music produced using it).
