I agree, Jamarcus Russell was the the first that year but we all how that turned out. He has to be one of the worst #1 picks. Well maybe not, but Russell was definitely a bust and I don't think the Raiders have been the same ever since. I thought the Raiders had something with Derek Carr but boy was I wrong.

That first catch was the first ever time I watched Calvin play and I was a about 12. I watched every single game after and the year he was drafted to the NFL was the ONLY draft I ever watched. I watched almost every pro game and was a huge lions fan because of him. Humble, hard working, freak of nature ability and exciting AF. Only player I was ever emotional over retiring. 21/81 forever!

Goes to show just how talented Megatron was. Georgia Tech ran the triple option before him and after him. When I was in high school from 01-05 my high school ran the same offense we used to watched Georgia Tech games. I played varsity 3 years and i was the 4-back which was the right side wing back. I fucking hated this offense we barely threw the ball and our QB could spin the fucking ball..

@@yunlotto869 I like Jefferson alot but as far as College and NFL dominance go I think Moss and Johnson were the two most dominant. Jefferson had better talent around him in college which might not make the comparison fair but even if he dominates the pros as much as Moss or Johnson I don't think I can say he dominated the college ranks as much as them. It's not so much about stats or the number of TDs but about defense double/triple covering you every play and still making plays even if the passes from the QB aint on target or behind you or whatever. Part of that is the guys they are playing with and it might not be fair to Jefferson. Moss and Johnson are also more dominant in that respect that every time they stepped on the field in college they were the best player on the field, offense or defense, either team, they were the best. I'm not sure you can say that about Jefferson and you definitely can't say it as easily as you can about Moss/Megatron.

This guy had Reggie Ball tossing to him at Tech! Imagine if he has a top tier qb in college in an actual system
@thomasdemay98053 жыл бұрын
Megatron and Moss were the two most dominant WRs Ive ever seen in college. Moss I think had Pennington and was playing smaller competition but was catching TDs over 3/4 dudes. Megatron was playing tougher competition and with Reggie Ball as QB but was just as dominant. I actually liked Reggie Ball too he was a warrior and played to win and did alot running but he was obviously never a great passing QB and even in these highlights you can see it. Deep Balls that should have been TDs that end up underthrown jump balls that Johnson has to make a highlight catch on.
@thomasdemay98053 жыл бұрын
@J Gt Chan Gailey didnt have what it takes at Georgia Tech for whatever reason. I dont know if their offense is technically "pro style" or not but Ball was not a great passer you can see in the highlights balls thrown behind Johnson, underthrown, wobbly duck I saw a bad one at one point. I actually like Ball as a QB and he helped those Tech teams win some games but if Johnson had a better QB he would have had far greater stats. I say Gailey didnt have what it takes because GTech is a hard school to win at so Ball not fitting his offense isnt surprising. GTech isn't only 2nd fiddle in state to Georgia and behind the SEC in recruiting to begin with but also has very tough academics like a Vanderbuilt or Duke so its very tough especially recruiting the trenches. Some of playing a mobile QB like Ball and using option football was necessitated because GTech lines always seemed to be very small and no disrespect a weak spot. I can't say for sure on the Megatron seasons what the shape of the OLine was but whenever I saw them play they were always undersized so probably not the best place for a "pro style" pocket QB. Part of the reason GTech hired Paul Johnson to begin with was because his option offense was utalized by Navy for the exact same reason GTech struggled which was covering up for a undersized and outmanned OLine. Part of the reason GTech wasn't bad with Ball / Johnson despite their talent on the rest of the roster not being great was that Ball could buy enough time for Johnson to get downfield for chunk plays or PI flags. The coverage Johnson demanded also opened up their run game a little so they werent bad running the bad even though the Oline was weak. It's been a long time so my memory might not be perfect but thats how I saw these GTech teams. I always like Ball though he had Balls so to speak he would take some hits and commend the team even though his passing wasnt the best.

Reggie Ball was definition of a "good college QB" and your right he was underrated I think. His passing accuracy wasn't great and his arm wasn't strong enough to fully utilize Megatron like Stafford did in the NFL. Ball was a winner though he was a warrior that always left it on the field. He would take hits and command the team. Even though his passing wasn't the best I remember he GT needed his mobility and fearless attitude to get balls even in the Air to Megatron because the OLine was always real small and outmatched against P5 teams. I think Ball the type of player that really reached his potential. He didn't have that NFL talent but he played to win and with played with guts and left a good legacy at GTech.

EVEN THO' HE HAD GREAT STATS,IF ANYONE REMEMBERS WHEN CJ PLAYED AT GEORGIA TECH,U HAVE TO ADMIT,THEY DIDN'T UTILIZE HIM ENOUGH..JUST THINK ABOUT IT,HE SHOULD'VE AVERAGE AT LEAST 10 RECEPTIONS A GAME AND ABOUT 20 TD'S A YEAR...SMH
@thomasdemay98053 жыл бұрын
Reggie Ball, who was very good QB overall, didn't have the arm strength to fully utalize Johnson and GTech Olines were always overmatched and didn't give alot of time. Every team knew Johnson was a monster and their whole defenses were geared to stop him. Johnson still had the talent to achieve those stats but the rest of the team was barely getting by taking advantage of the things he opened up.
