Another good video guys/gals. My son got a jersey steer about 4 years ago. He was about 4 mouths old , he raised him now he a lifer. He’s worse than a dog, any thing you do in the pen he’s right in the middle of it. He always looks poor up top but as big a round as our beef bulls.thanks for sharing 👍🏻

Reminds me of the family farm. 20 head, only jersey. Grandpa would call out to them and they would come in to get milked.

That sounds beautiful and ours all know their names and once I awhile I'll call out to them and the will come running! Great comment and thank you so much for watching, Lynette and Peter

Do you cross breed the cows or just have a few Jersey's to boost your butter fat?
@backtothelandorganicfarmer68616 жыл бұрын
AndersonCattleCo. Well, actually we have tried not to crossbreed for the most part! We have had a couple of Holsteins in the past that decided to be hard to breed and I have crossed them with a linebacker( we have a couple of steers that we are raising that are holstein, lineback cross!)! Peter would love a herd of Jerseys, but we only have two at the moment! Our Butterfat runs at about 4.8 and our protein about 3.28! Thank you so much for watching, Have a great day, Lynette and Peter ps, that is a great idea for a video( breeding)

Could you do a milking video I would love to see your milking set up. Also why do you calve this time of the year and not do spring calving
@backtothelandorganicfarmer68616 жыл бұрын
We would be happy to do a milking video! On the other question, We sometimes have a few cows calve in spring, but truthfully we love the cows to calve between now and December because here in the States everyone calves in spring and there is so much milk being marketed that the milk price drops dramatically! In the fall and January and February, we get a $3 premium for our milk( so it made sense to us to change our calving schedule) we hope to keep the cows on grass until December with some hay supplements, but we like those cows in peak production for Fall and Winter( and we still get a spring flush)! Thank you James, and I just figured out how to have featured channels, so I thought I'd let you know that we are featuring your channel! Have a beautiful day, Lynette and Peter

Weaver Cattle Company That is an excellent and very thorough comment! I very much appreciate this level of discussion! We almost lost our farm in 2006 when the price of milk fell from $14 a hundred to $11! Truthfully, I believe this is the most challenging part of dairy farming! It would be awesome to know the parity price for milk( I bet farmers would totally be blown away)! Thank you for viewing and commenting and we will totally look at that link! Have a great evening, Lynette and Peter

Can you give me that recipe for hoof rot or injury again! I think we can use copper sulfate under the organic rules( I just need to submit a form for approval) but I'm almost positive it is on the approved list of inputs

Our spring started out dry. Then the rain never stopped. Rain on the 4th of July and drizzle last night. Flooding north and west of us last night. They also had 5 inches of hail.
