I don’t understand why being called a game manager is considered derogatory. That’s what the hell a quarterback does. They manage the game. They manage all the skill positions out there. Am I missing something?

Game manager= Just don't make huge mistakes. You probably won't ever be the reason we win just don't be the reason we lost. You must didn't play football that's disrespectful to any quarterback.

It's a matter of context. The way the phrase was introduced into the discourse was as a derogatory term for people like Christian Ponder and Alex Smith. In NFL front offices we use the term more as it refers to their playing philosophy, with game managers being the opposite of gunslingers. Neither being objectively better than the other, just better or worse fits for various rosters.

Defensive lead Cam to the Superbowl that year, I remember. I also remember that the Panthers were driving to score a touchdown when Cam got stripped, and he didn't want to dive on the ball. His argument is pointless in the end. A game changer becomes game manager at some point in their career. Cam was never a game manager or a game changer during his career. Mike Vick was a game changer, and he played in an era when football was dangerous, no like how it is now.

Josh Allen and Cam Newton are the same damn near but for some reason because they look different, they get treated different. Josh Allen is the only QB I've seen play like Cam, since Cam, Josh Allen has had the same success as cam thus far in his career, actually less. Why don't they also call Josh Allen a glorified RB? He has not won with his arm, that's why everyone is scared he is going to get hurt and throw the bills back to the stone age. Whenever someone looks like Cam, they act like he isn't a QB, just because he can also truck you when he feels like it, which is great to have on your team as an option to move the ball. You can be a brute QB, you're still a quarterback.
@WombatPants
@WombatPants 9 ай бұрын
That's your take which is fine but Cam was talking about two QB categories, game manager vs. game changer. So if all QBs are game managers why even mention it as a category of QB? Why not just name the game changers?
@cobbler88
@cobbler88 6 ай бұрын
@@kevinleewilliams5119 You can put the race card back in the deck. Allen has started 10 wins every season for the last 5 years. Newton never had back to back winning seasons, and only had a winning record 3 times in his 11-year career. Allen has a very good chance of at least tying Cam for career wins during this - his 7th season. His completion percentage is more than 4 points higher and he'll have more passing TDs than Cam by midseason, without being remotely close to the same INT total. Yeah. They're totally the same player. If people have a problem with Cam, it's because he's dumber than a bag of hair and doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut. Take care.

“Game Manager” originally meant: a quarterback that fits well with a coach that plays field position/ time of possession football. Tom Brady WAS a game manager but only his first two seasons.

Maybe someone needs to ask Cam who is considered "elite" as oppose to "game manager". Me personally Peyton Manning is the goat of quarterbacks. He has the most league MvP's in NFL history (really should've won it the year Adrian Peterson got it too). The way he orchestrated an offense was masterful and truly something special to watch. He made Hall of Famer Ray Lewis add another room onto his house in order to study him. Now that's true greatness.

Mahomes dinked and dunked and dinked and dunked. Purdy, with all the pressure in the world playing behind a line that doesn't know how to block, and with a coach calling God awful plays, never stopped trying to throw downfield. Before Greenlaw got hurt, Mahomes looked like trash. I'm not saying Purdy is better than Mahomes, but Purdy played a better game than Mahomes. Mahomes average depth of his completions had to be under 7 yards. He had one bomb and it should've been an interception, but the safety just gave up on it for no reason. But Mahomes played very well in OT, and that's all anyone will remember.

Tom Brady beat the Rams and did like nothing in that Super Bowl. Dude wasn't perfect. "Until Brock wins more than Pat" first of all, why do you keep referring to these guys by their first names like you know them? You're nobody. Second of all, Mahomes is like 28 and Purdy is 22 or whatever. What are you on about? Wasn't Mahomes a backup at that age? So number of rings dictates who is best? Game managers are expected to do enough to not lose the game. Following the game plan of the coordinator. Game changers are expected to win the game through their style of play and talent they possess through strategic play calling in times of need. Some quarterbacks possess both traits which are considered elite. A play can be called for Cam to win the game with his legs or throwing the ball but others are expected to manage the game with the talent that surrounds them.

1:18 being a Denver Bronco fan for my whole 52 years of life this was one of the best place in the super bowl involving the broncos. Von Miller stripping that ball was epic timing. The first best was probably when they won their first super bowl against the Packers and Elway got helicoptered right at the end zone but he got the first down!

It’s a such thing as an elite game manager. Aaron Rodgers is a game changer but his game management skills isn’t like Tom Brady. Tom know how to use the clock and call the right play at the right time to win games

Cam is trying to win a debate on a technicality. The term game manager has always implied a modest physical skill set. It means you cannot take over a game and win it in a way that a Mahomes, Elway, etc could. There is no 2 minute drive at the end of a game or fear from a fan base with a game manager. Also, Cam did what a lot of people do in debates. He made this a binary situation which is almost always not the case..." Is he a game manager or game changer". That is absurd- very few QBs are game changers- that does not mean thus they are game managers. It is a very simplistic way of framing an argument. It puts someone (like Sapp) in a situation where he has to refer to a Brad Johnson as a game changer - which he was not. That does not mean by default that he is therefore a game changer.
