Listening to this is what I imagine my mom would have told me if she told me about my birth. I was flown by helicopter the day I was born. Also needed a feeding tube. My mom decided she couldn’t do that so she fed me with an eye dropper. Needless to say I was then labeled as failure to thrive. So glad to hear they went with meds less harsh than morphine. I got that too much as a kid and now as an adult reg pain killers do absolutely nothing. Glad to hear she is doing well.

#BLESSINGS Cam and fam, as a medical professional and mother of two NICU babies myself, I completely felt your worries. Our brains tend to go “worse case scenario” on is when we need the exact opposite. My NICU babies are grown now and married. They survived the trauma of the experience far better than we often do as parents. It’s scary and completely out of our control. I will say that even those of us who recognize those machines and understand the medical jargon are no less stressed in that situation. Sometimes, not knowing too much is a blessing in itself. Sending prayers as your family gets settled in and you navigate this journey of life. Having been a teacher of children with special needs, I would not worry about any residual things regarding her learning abilities. Every child struggles with something. No one is perfect. The love of a father and mother offers miraculous opportunities for a child. She is safe. She is beautiful. She is healthy. She is loved. Cant get any better than that!

As someone who had to go through the nicu life for 7 months, it is a scary time. Everyone processes it differently, and you handled it in the best way that worked for you, Cam. The doctor's are amazing, and the nurses are the unsung hero's you didn't know you needed. During my time with the nicu, I was also in the hospital, so could not go see him. The nurses would send me notes daily, and tell me how he was doing, and sent me his little footprints on this time card. I am so glad to hear your baby girl had the best care, and seems to be doing well.

I’m a NICU nurse. The lines in her umbilical cord was a UAC (umbilical arterial catheter) and a UVC (umbilical venous catheter). As scary as the lines are, they are the best thing to have in those circumstances. The arterial line is used for continuous blood pressure monitoring and lab draws, and in those situations there will be a lot of labs. The venous line is used for IV fluids and medications without having to restart regular IVs. Cam I’m so happy to hear everything is well with baby Layla. NICU parents are the strongest. I take care of these precious miracles everyday. Also so happy to see baby Lucas doing so well. Love the videos guys!!!

My son was a preemie (27 weeks, 1Lbs 15 oz) and after 4 months in the NICU at the hospital he was born at, they life flighted him to Children's in Dallas. He was in that incubator on wheels with tubes everywhere and it was definitely scary at first. Now hes 6 1/2 and almost 70 Lbs!

Each day that something isn't required for your baby to have is a HUGE milestone. I'll never forget crying when my daughter was finally able to wear clothes cause even the preemie outfits were to big. All the tubes and wires and the isolette seemed like a spaceship to me. Cam you and the fam are in such great hands. NICU nurses and doctors sure don't get the recognition they deserve! Much love to you all!

Bravo to Lisa it is much needed, she will benefit from it herself. I often tell my oldest daughter who couldn’t have her own children and who is a special need teacher that she was needed to be mother to many more children. You guys trying to compliment your wives are adorable :)
@Bethlam Жыл бұрын
When you guys were talking about odd compliments to your wives I remembered when my husband told me I’m not normal and meant it as a compliment. I have A LOT of white hair for my age so instead of drying it my usual brown every month I started drying my hair blue, green and purple for the past few years. I had to find a new doctor and I didn’t want to be judged so I dyed my hair solid black to cover all the color. After a few months of keeping it solid black my husband asked me when was I going to back to blue. I answered I don’t know why do you ask? He said I kinda a miss it because you’re not normal. I replied “thank you?” He quickly said he meant it takes a ton of confidence to walk around with oddly colored hair and he could never do that. He would feel like everyone was staring at him constantly and he couldn’t handle that but I wore it as if it wasn’t a big deal. Too me it’s not a big deal to have blue and purple hair. That’s what he loves about it and wanted me to keep doing it. So I went back to blue and purple highlights.

Although rare girls can be color blind too. My daughter was tested and she is just like her father. They can see primary colors (Example: red, yellow, green, blue, etc) but the shades of these colors are what is hard for them to see. So YES girls can be color blind.

My oldest daughter who is now five and starting kindergarten was a Nicu baby. I had her at 28 weeks (was in the hospital that last month before I had her for monitoring. She weighed 1 pound 15 oz and stayed in the Nicu from may 4- august 15th. It was scary and she turned blue and purple in my arms a few times. So I know a little of what you went through aside from a couple different things. Prayers for you and your family Cam! ❤❤

The NICU is a place nobody wants to be. Both of mine were the biggest babies in there, some of the babies are hand sized, some of the parents couldn't handle seeing their babies in that state so signed their rights off to cps, some of the parents were planning their babies funerals, there's machine alarms going off every two seconds and the stress of all the parents surrounds the whole place. It's such a sad place to go but the staff are always the most amazing people.

I know I already commented about my husband saying I’m not normal but I wanted to add to the baby side as well. My first child had to be monitored at birth because the nurse saw she was struggling to breathe. I was a brand new parent and had NO CLUE anything was wrong. Luckily it was just a bit of fluid left over from being born because I had to have a c-section because my hips didn’t move to allow her to be born. She was monitored for three days which is how long I had to stay to be monitored after birth so she was returned to us roughly a few hours before I was to be discharged so I was able to go home with her. A little scary but nothing major. My second child was breech and came a week early while my husband was out of town for work so I had another emergency c-section but I was alone this time. Also, all my joints loosened up so much I almost couldn’t walk by the time my second child was born. Took a full year before I could walk without pain. My second child was born large so she just kept losing weight after birth. She was labeled as failure to thrive. I had to take her to a specialist for digestion, she was hospitalized overnight for monitoring, and it took a year for her to double her birth rate which it should only take six months. I really got to know my pediatrician well after her birth because I was constantly in his office having her weight checked and her development monitored. My last child was the deciding fact to make sure we were done. I was hospitalized two or three times during the pregnancy because I was having liver issues and high blood pressure. I had to go to the hospital every other day for the last three months of my pregnancy to make sure the baby was still alive. Ended up having my last c-section two weeks early because bother my baby and I were struggling to stay healthy. My husband and I decided to have my tubes tied at that time because I was already in surgery, the doctors were right there anyway so it was an easy procedure and didn’t impact my recovery at all. I had hoped for two boys and two girls but had to stop at three because I wasn’t sure my body could handle another pregnancy and I had gotten luckily with the first three babies only having minor complications. I knew I couldn’t go through with another complicated pregnancy with the risk of the baby dying, me dying or both of us dying. It just made sense to stop with three healthy babies rather than roll the dice a fourth time and have everything go wrong. I never really recovered from the last pregnancy. I almost died a week after my last one, my son, being born and was hospitalized for three days because I had too much fluid in my body which was compressing my heart and lungs. Also, my blood pressure was high and they thought I might have a stroke. My last pregnancy almost killed me and my son. I can’t imagine what Cam and Austin have been going through. People don’t realize that pregnancy and child birth is still a very risky experience to go through because we have all this knowledge and technology to help deal with complications unlike in the past. So much can still go wrong even if you do everything right during the pregnancy. Like I said I am still dealing with a lot of health issues from my last pregnancy and my son is a healthy 11 year old. Hope all goes well from this point on. Babies really are little miracles.

Cam's news had me reliving my daughter's birth. She technically was born dead. I thought my water broke at work so my boss took me to the hospital. They got me hooked me up to the monitors and when my Dr got there he checked me over and said everything looked good. He headed to the door and the baby's heart rate went from 149 to 24 in a second. They took me to surgery and she was born in 10 seconds and her numbers were all zero. But in 5 minutes they were all 10. She had to stay in NICU for 10 days. And now I have a beautiful 26 year old daughter with her own daughter. I believe she was meant to be here because that night the Dr I liked was on call, the best respiratory, the best pediatrician, and the best neurologist in thr Quad cities (Iowa) were all on call. So yes I believe in God.

My husband can see primary colors but if it is a different shade he can't tell. My nephew was taken right to children's after he was born. He was born at 29 weeks gestation. He was 2 1/2 pounds. My sister and brother in law were a wreck. They told them. He is a little fighter. He kept pulling his feeding tube out. He will be 19 in a couple of weeks. My sister said she was in the NICU and felt bad for the nurse. Another baby pulled his feeding tube out and the nurse fixed that then my nephew pulled his feeding tube out and the nurse fixed him up and the other baby pulled his out again. He kept pulling it out a home too. They told my sister that he would have to have all kinds of therapy PT and Occupational therapy. Nope. The night before he was born I had a dream... A white robed arm palm up and glowing. I got the call the next day at work that he was born. I knew why I had the Dream. God showed me that sign for a reason. I knew he was going to be okay. My other sister had my niece and she had to have heart surgery at 14 days old. She had a hole and 4 other things wrong with her hear. Again Children's Hospital...Can't say enough good things about them. She had so many tubes and wires and stuff. Just crazy to see my tiny little niece like that. She is 26 now. God does great things. Welcome to the world Layla. Congratulations. It will be fun to watch her grow up. You guys are truly wonderful friends
