Hector was such a great fighter... I thought he won the fight but at the same time it was close... I was privileged to fight Camacho in 1995 and take him the distance... Two very talented fighters...

I had Camacho ahead the entire fight until the last round. Haugen made it close when he won the 11th, then Camacho did nothing in the 12th and was penalized a point, which put Haugen barely ahead for me, just like the judges had it. It was a draw if not for the penalty point. I noticed the fight was much more enjoyable with only 2 commentators and silence for a few seconds in between. Today there are too many guys talking non-stop, too much sensationalizing when a punch lands and too much favoritism. In this fight, neither guy was favored by the commentators, they switched back and forth depending upon who was doing well. It was very refreshing to hear it fair and balanced.

Whitaker was E extremely talented . However for whatever reason given he usually had "A" Side leverage He missed out on many big fights that would have tested him a lot more. Edwin Rosario's legendary Right hand down the middle of Pernel's Southpaw stance would have been a great challenge especially at Lightweight. Rosario Knocked out Anthony Jones in 6 Rounds with that same famed Right Hand two years previous to Pernell going the distance with Jones . Also multiple time 140 Champ Juan Coggi , Multiple Time 140 Champ Frankie Randall , Hector Camacho ,WBC Super Welter Champ Terry Norris in 94 when Pernell turned down a Unification match with Norris for the WBA 154lb belt Whitaker lifted off one dimensional Julio Cesar Vasquez . Ike Quartey and Jose Luis Lopez at 147 and Kostya Tszyu at 140lb .

A little known bout. Hector's luck with the judges had run out apparently. Haugen issues Camacho his very first loss. Haugen was stripped of this win after testing positive for THC. So, Haugen nursed a blunt, then beat Camacho.

Pernell even said so in one of his post fight interviews whe n asked about fighting Hector pernell literally said "Why Now " this was between the years 1990-92. Based on how Pernell had his hands full with a injured Buddy Mcgirt and being Floored by Mcgirt in rematch and also Pernell struggled with Wilfredo Rivera I say Camacho would edge Pernell with footwork and speed. Pernell was at his best when opponents ca.e at him like JC Chavez , JC Vasquez at 154 Haugen at 135 Rafael Pineda at 140lb all these guys stood in front of Pea. Camacho struggled with power punching pressure fighters like Hall of Famers De la hoya , Trinidad and JC Chavez . Pea was not a stalking poer punching Pressure fighter . Pea was just a level notch below Camacho on speed and Footspeed.

Like him or not, Camacho was one of the best to step foot in the ring and on this night, he was cheated by two of the judges and the ref. Camacho clearly had his glove out to touch up and never touched Haugen for the point deduction. Just another example of corruption or incompetence, either way and undefeated champion was stripped of his title for being the best.

113-113 - I had it a draw. Camacho is an idiot for throwing that punch in round 12. Then after the deduction, took the round easy anyways when he should have known that now he needed to step it up and come forward. Few tough rounds to score. Crowd was really into it for Haugen. Camacho landed the better punches but Haugen was the aggressor coming forward most of the fight. When he had Macho on the ropes, the crowd would go nuts. How does Lederman give round 10 to Camacho? I think Camacho’s corner was not doing a very good job, either. First they got the rounds wrong when they said it was round 12 when it was actually round 11 - then they said the crowd was “slow” and that they dominated round 11 despite being out thrown, outlanded, and being on the ropes. I think that Camacho came into the fight underestimating his opponent and it showed in his cardio. Good fight. Camacho Haugen ROUND 1 9 10 ROUND 2 10 9 ROUND 3 10 8 ROUND 4 10 9 ROUND 5 9 10 ROUND 6 9 10 ROUND 7 10 9 ROUND 8 10 9 ROUND 9 10 9 ROUND 10 9 10 ROUND 11 9 10 ROUND 12 8 10

He was a four-weight world champion, having won titles at lightweight, light welterweight, welterweight, and light middleweight; the undisputed lightweight title; and the lineal lightweight and welterweight titles.[3] In 1989, Whitaker was named Fighter of the Year by The Ring magazine and the Boxing Writers Association of America. He currently holds the longest unified lightweight championship reign in boxing history at six title defenses. Whitaker is generally regarded as one of the greatest defensive boxers of all-time.[4

It's called boxing my friend the art of hitting without getting hit as much as you can. Camacho Was His Own Worst Enemy but on top of his game he was unbeatable if you know anything about boxing. Drugs and fame and being undisciplined to a certain point is the destruction of most boxers you have to be discipline in the ring and out of the ring that's the key. My humble opinion.
