@@Tge97That's exactly a point I've thought about many times! The guards were like the Roman soldiers, who, despite knowing in their hearts who he was, took him to his death. John Coffey was like Jesus Christ with the performing of miracles, healing, and suffering for the state of humanity. Before I was a Christian, I felt that the guards did the right thing. The actor who played the burned prisoner, Delecroix, was Michael Jeter. He came out as gay, and was HIV+. He lived for 18 years with his partner, Sean Blue, until he died unexpectedly of complications from a seizure in 2003. I don't know if the seizure was HIV-related, but it could have been. I have had a couple friends die of AIDS dementia, which often includes seizures. Anyway, he's been in things you will have heard of, including Sister Act 2, and Jurassic Park III. His was cremated, just 50 years old. I literally have never heard a bad word about him, from anyone who knew him. Seeing him here, like this, is always very hard for me, knowing all this. He and I had a lot in common. You guys' sensitivity to things is quite refreshing. There is a lot of real pain in the world. Movies can give a taste of that, and can take it away, too. There is a lot of good in the world. If you want to see some, I recommend, "To Wong Foo." No spoilers even about the cast. Be surprised. Be very surprised. Oh, and please, be forever against the death penalty. 5% of the time, they have killed an innocent person, and the sentencing is racially biased. I don't want to pay some guard to murder someone. Last thought, I promise. William Sadler, who played the little girls' father, he has been in a bunch of things, but I want to recommend just one, which was Jada Pinkett's movie debut, before she met and married Will. That movie is, "Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight." You will likely recognise most of the people in it. CCH Pounder is still acting today. Be well.

I'm 20 years into the book and the film. It took a long time before I could think about the story objectively. First, the JC allegory is very deliberate. Mr King loves him some Christian fables. Second, John Coffey is always obeyed. It's easy to miss because he's so soft spoken. If John ( or the power that works through him ) decides to act, he is not interfered with. The guards often hang back when they start to move forward. They move back when John is transferring the evil effluent to Percy, then when Percy ( in very obviously in distress ) walks away from them down the corridor they stay where they are until AFTER Percy shoots Bill. Those are just two examples. It actually happens several times. In keeping with the Christ allegory, if John had wished for a different outcome he could have made it happen. Lastly, is the question: How old is John? He has scars on his back that suggest he was beaten as a child. But when was he a child? Does he know how things are all over the world because he's been there? Some of these questions are answered in the book but none of the big ones. I definitely recommend reading it.

1999 is definitely one of the greatest years in film history and The Green Mile is one of many reasons why

I spoiled this movie for myself because I read the book first. I used to be a huge Stephen King fan and had read all of his books when I was younger. As much as I loved all of his books, I hated that I didn't get to experience this movie in the same way that everyone else did. I still LOVED the movie but I didn't get to have those shocking moments because I knew what to expect and knew what the truth was. I think this is why I love watching reactors watch it because I get to watch you experience what I didn't.

At 36:48 Tom Hanks actually DID need to wipe his shoulder because the mouse legitimately left him a present as he was walking into Michael Clarke Duncan’s hand 🤣

Love this movie and y'all's reaction. For the record, it wasn't puke at 29:57. Or maybe Zay was saying "Don't look and puke." 😆Anyway, it was just chewed up to a paste Moon Pie. Still disgusting. The first time I saw this movie, I thought it was 💩 for half a heartbeat before I realized what he'd done. Wild Bill and Percy were just made for each other. Oh--if this one does well and y'all haven't seen it before, definitely check out Shawshank Redemption. 🍿

I am highly impressed by your commentary after viewing this movie. You 2 went more in depth than any that I’ve seen…the mile encompassing the journey of life itself, the lights exploding and going out at Johns death, comparisons of light and dark. I always enjoy you guys reactions.

Love your reaction! Especially the way you called out the context issues. Any portion of this movie, seen alone, would give you an incredibly incorrect impression of reality. Such is life. How can we ever really know the whole truth? Wild Bill got what he deserved, but John did not kill him out of anger, it was mercy. When Bill grabbed John, John saw his whole life, not just the murder. He saw how Bill got so broken. And he showed Bill mercy because Bill was too far gone to help or heal. Percy was the same. There was no malice in John's actions.

Great reaction. Cam I thought you were so funny. When the mouse was stepped on, OMG, your screaming, noooooo. Pretty much what everyone does. Lordy, and your gagging. LOL. I really am surprised your didn't cry. You are the first one that hasn't among all the other reactors that have watched this movie. I think Percy is one of the top 5 characters hated by everyone.

The world lost one helluva man and actor when Michael Clark Duncan died. His portrayal of John Coffey was, imo, his greatest performance. Loved MCD.

You raise a good question. Is the long life a blessing or a curse? It could be argued that every blessing is also a curse in it's way.

You are amazing young men! I'm so glad I came across your reaction channel. Thank you for taking the time to really talk about your feelings regarding this wonderful movie. I love this movie so much and always discover something new whenever I watch it. My favorite scene is when Barry Pepper's character couldn't hold back his tears during the execution scene, he's openly crying, and Tom has to tell him to wipe his face. Powerful.

I've seen this amazing movie a few times as well as many reactions to it and I've never noticed nor seen anyone else notice that John Coffey's initials were the same as J.C.'s.. It would be just like Stephen King to slide an easter egg like that in there. Great catch.

ok so my favorite part is that clearly knowing Zay has seen it and seeing him try to keep it together at the beginning when the classic movie starts playing is the literally mood when showing a friend this movie
