A WTN cameraman videotaped an interview with former Khmer Rouge leader Pol Pot in the rebels' Cambodian stronghold of Anlgong Veng on Sunday (4/1). The interview was Pol Pot's second with an outsider over 18
years.
The interview disproves last week's reports that Pol Pot had left Cambodia for China to receive medical treatment. Asked about his role in the killing of as many as two million Cambodians under the Khmer Rouge's rule from 1975-1979, Pol Pot said he did not wish to discuss the matter. He also refused to talk about the execution of rival faction
leader Son Sen in June 1997, said to be have been ordered by him.
After Son Sen's murder, the Khmer Rouge expelled Pol Pot from the leadership and in a show trial subsequently sentenced him to life under house arrest.
SHOWS:
ANLONG VENG, CAMBODIA, 4/1
Pol Pot walking on the arm of a Khmer Rouge commander;
SOT Pol Pot (Khmer), saying doesn't want to talk about Son Sen anymore;
Pol Pot walking under escort;
SOT Pol Pot, talking about his bad health;
Pol Pot being escorted to his jeep;
jeep drives off;

Uh no, 2 million of cambodian people died during that time. Judging from both of my grandparents and many other people who survived from that era, they all said that they all suffered, even meal are not enough to feed the family. Everyone need to find food secretly to survived. IF CAMBODIA IS RICH THAN WHY SO MANY PEOPLE SUFFER AND FULL OF FAMINE OVER THE COUNTRY, also don’t forget that khmer rouge destroyed everything, hospitals, pagodas, movie cinema, and many other building and stuff from the old regime and use schools, universities AS PRISON, I REPEAT PRISONS !!! And also they destroyed everything include national infrastructures, and tried to form a nation with only farming. And start take a look at the country’s economy statistic during that time, you will know that it’s so low and almost NONE.

**In case you wondered what Pol Pot said in the video.** This is my translation (It's not perfect because there is no way to translate something with 100% accuracy) from me as a native Khmer speaker. Pol Pot: I don't wanna explain anymore as I already addressed similar questions (regarding the death of Son Sen) many times. I agreed to be interviewed because you made a great effort to meet me and raised concerns about my health decline. Since 1995, I worked extremely hard. My head is often loaded with heat. My eyesight was gradually getting low. Now my left eye is almost blind. [Getting in the car and bid farewell to the journalist]

It’s legitimately disturbing that such a despicable and vile man was never brought to justice. it’s just as disturbing that someone so evil can seem so gentle and kind. I know most would say hitler or Stalin when it comes to the most evil leaders ever but even though Pol Pot didn’t kill nearly as many he was perhaps even more crazed and sick. He’s truly the most evil leader to ever live in my opinion.
@jonboner2987
@jonboner2987 11 ай бұрын
Pol pot killed more proportionally to the population.Moreover, hitler's deaths occurred during a wartime period (where in any war, all sides get fucked over brutally, as seen throughout history). Stalin and Mao are comparable due to their economic collectivization, but because they didnt have their country revolt or get invaded, they are still seen as "heroes"

@@scottming8550 He is _accused_ of being a "Marxist historian" with literally no proof of that. And working with people who were actually present at the time is literally what historians do. Simply based on statistical grounds, the possibility of a "Cambodian genocide" can be excluded with ease: The population of Kampuchea decreased by roughly half a million during 1975-1979. Without factoring in lowered birth rates, we would have 1,5 million excess deaths - 12% of the Kampuchean population at the time. However, severely decreased birth rates were reported following the war, and the real number of excess deaths is likely much lower. Even the 12% maximum figure is reasonable: Compare it to Yugoslavia after WW2, where famine killed 11% of the population - and Yugoslavia had international aid available while Kampuchea did not. And Kampuchea too had just come out of a devastating war. "Marxist ideology must be fought at all costs" Lol. Sure. Whatever man.

@Jasper Walsh The stories were vastly exaggerated. Keep in mind that most of those who came up with such stories are those who fled the country at the end of the civil war - monarchists and Lon Nol supporters. And I sure do love how you didn't even bother to read my source, despite it being recommended by UNTAC itself.

That fact he’s being handled with care absolutely surprises me. a quarter of Cambodias population was killed in 4 years under his rule. He committed an uncountable number of terrible atrocities and many more crimes against humanity. And he’s here, being taken care of, living nicely in his last days. Why does he get to live such a happy life when he took the lives of a quarter of Cambodians. They never got to experience the beauty of life, they never got to see day again, they never got to breath again, they never got to meet their loved ones again. Their life was taken away. And this guy is just living freely and happily?? Disgusting… within humanity are 2 species. 1 - humans, 2 - monsters disguised as humans. He is a fine example of a monster. English later (maybe; I'll try) - Vietnamese for now. # Trung Trần nói "Anh mắt hoảng sợ của mỗi ng khi nhìn thấy Việt cộng tới ..." - Tui nói: # Ông bà dì chú cha mẹ bà con chòm xóm ... tui không ai sợ. Trái lại, phần lớn Đồng bào chổ tui (Hồng Ngự, Đồng Tháp; tui nghĩ ở đâu cũng giống vậy, như Mỹ Tho, Cần Thơ, Phú Quốc, Trà Vinh, Cà Mau, Nha Trang, Phú Yên, Quảng Ngãi, Bình Dương, Huế, Quảng Trị, ...) còn nghe lời Việt Cộng mà kêu gọi Lính Sài Gòn (còn rất đông, súng đạn còn phủ phê) rã ngủ buông súng đầu hàng rồi ai về nhà nấy; thu gom súng ống mà giao nộp cho Việt Cộng; và giúp Việt Cộng rượt bắt bọn Ngụy Ác Ôn (chỉ bọn ác ôn thôi) ========== Bọn Tàn dư 3 Que (phần lớn là bọn Ngụy Ác Ôn khi xưa, chạy trốn được qua Mỹ) đã hùa vô với bọn Diệt chủng Pôn Pốt, được bọn Bành trướng Trung Quốc hết lòng hổ trợ giúp đỡ, chi trả, được Chính quyền Mỹ lòng đầy hận thù nuôi dưởng chỉ đạo điều khiền, có bọn Tà lọt Thái lan, Singapore hùa vô giúp xây căn cứ, cung cấp lương thực, ... phát động hết "Phục Quốc" nầy, tới "Đông Tiến 1", "Đông Tiến 2" kia, để điên cuồng chống phá nước Việt Nam của tui. # Nhưng hỡi ơi! tất cả "Phục Quốc", "Đông Tiến 1", "Đông Tiến 2", ... tất tần tật, đều bị Dân Quân Việt Lào Campuchia nắm đầu, quét gọn, tiêu diệt, không còn 1 mống (nhờ người Việt yêu nước nằm sẵn ở Cali-phọt, Paris, ... cho biết Bọn Tàn dư 3 Que là ai, đi đâu, làm gì, ...)!

Pol Pot seems like some medieval madman. Sad to think that a man of this evil was still alive when the internet, DVDs, 3D video games, and cell phones were out. Me and Pol Pot were living and breathing on the same planet, a few thousand miles apart, for 5 years. If you're born after April 15, 1998, you don't realize how lucky you are. May all of the victims of the Khmer Rouge rest in peace, and may Pol Pot rot in hell. October 17, 2023 2:28 am

@andy yun Ur comparison between HK (a territory created by the British) and Cambodia (a country) is not even valid. It's not hard to understand why HKers sympathize to its former British rulers. As mentioned, HK was created by the British from the Ching Empire (not People's Republic of China). 99.99% of people in HK were from regions of China, many of them were running away from the atrocities/pesecution of the cultural revolution and famine under the Mao era. The British GAVE shelter and grace to 1 to 2 million refugees, which allowed them to become today's "HK residents". The British even went as far as to build government housing and re-housed these illegal immigrants away from poor squatter houses. The British also gave special status to the indigenous villagers of HK: the sole right to own land. HKers born under the British HK era. literally have nothing to do with China whatsoever: They were born on British land and enjoyed the prosperity and resources of the Brits, albeit there was some racial discrimination, but most Chinese HKers were as still a result of the grace of Brits. If anything, HK should be an apologist of the Ching empire because "first generation HKers" were Ching Empire residents, but that identity has been lost with the new generations. In light of HK's history, now u tell me why should HKers sympathize with the "People's Republic of China"? Just because they have the same skin colour? 🤣Especially with the ugly history of the communist gov't during the cultural revolution, etc...

I mean it's logic to be mad at someone who killed their family and 1 3rd. Makes no sense to me how hating some one who killed 1/3 of their population is being butt hurt. Also killing Khmers who know French is not helping. I don't think Cambodians even get good teachings like other countries. Never knew genocide was perfect to you but ok.

videos like this make me think of an old quote. Even when it comes to terrible acts, monsters aren't real. There are only men, and of the two, men are far more terrifying. Monsters are obvious. They're big, they have sharp teeth or claws, and you know one when you see one. But men are just as deadly, and it's impossible to tell who will do what.
