Thank you so much man. I'll have my C1 exam tomorrow (Saturday since its already Friday here XD) and I wasnt 100% sure if the scores on my practice tests were being enough. Funny enough, on both Reading and Use of English I was 2 points away from the C2 minimum score haha, and in one Listening practice I got 25 marks, almost C2! So now I feel much more confident, and I was extremely stressed before seeing this. I'll pass that exam! Now I'm sure about it :D

UPDATE: I have just finished my exam,and now i sum up all my impressions: use of english: not too bad,it was quite feasible reading: quite the same but I randomly answered to some questions writing: probably my best part,I used a very good range of vocabulary and complex grammar structures (maybe i have done some typos,anyway) listening: very difficult,i suggest to practice a lot speaking: i used good vocsbulary and comolex grammar stuctures,and even interacted well with my partner,but sometimes my fluency was not so good i ll uptade this comment with the result.Thanks and see ya😉

@@mike_5199 Hi! How did it go? I hope you passed! I'd like to ask you some questions about how to prepare myself to the C1 exam. I've some doubts in terms of organization and how to learn more vocabulary. Did you use the classic list of vocabulary to study or did you use other techniques? Apart from that, how do you recommend me to prepare the exam? Should I practise only with mock exams? Or I should only focus in following a book to learn well how the grammar works? Last but not least, how did you organize the different skills among the days of the week? Did you focus on one skill every day or you studied more than one a day? Thank you so much!

hi! lets say i get enough marks on 4 of the papers but got less than 180 points on one. Can i still get C1 certificate if the other four of my papers are above 180?
@teacherphill
@teacherphill Жыл бұрын
You're overall score is the average of the five exam papers so yes, you can get C1 even if you don't get 180 in each paper. The average is what's important. 👍

Thanks a lot. 24/42 in reading part is 160. What if 23 or 25? What's the score in this case?

Something around 160. I'm not a mathematician and the information provided by Cambridge English is all I have as well. :)

Hi Anna, I think this is Cambridge's little secret. Unfortunately, the only thing I found is the conversion tables I use in the video.

I'm an English teacher/ Cambridge Exams tutor and I've always struggled with the Cambridge scale as well! I've come up with this Cambridge Exams Calculator, now I simply enter the number of marks of each student and I get both their result and a sample statement of result! Anyway, thought I'd share Hope it's useful! kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJu8aI2wrpJlgas

Hi Phil, I did my English placement test in Cambridge metritests (online) and the test name was " CEPT Reading and Listening". There I did listening and reading CEFR | CES, and scored 50 and 43 respectively, with B2|47 SCORE. I would like to know what is the highest score from each of those two?

Hi Phil, recently i have obtained my official B1 PET certification and i have scored 163/170 so on the certification Is showed that i have a B2 level. That means that i have a B2 certification or It still remains a B1?

Hello! I'm an English teacher and I prepare students for their future exams. I've watched your video, but I still don't get how they get from the marks on the paper to those scores....for example if my student gets 42 out of 50 points in Reading on a Cambridge C1 Advanced exam, how do I transform that into the Scale Score? I found on the internet the tables that you showed in your video, but they still don't explain how they do the calculations from how many answers you got right on that part of the test to their Scale score. I found some information on one of their official sites, and it said something like "....a candidate’s overall score is calculated by adding all of the individual scores together and dividing by five (and then rounding to the nearest whole number) " but it still doesn't give me the results they show in the tables. It's so confusing!
@teacherphill
@teacherphill Жыл бұрын
Mathematically, I can't explain it to you either. I don't know what the formula for the conversion is, but you can use the tables to extrapolate the scale score from the number of marks. Unfortunately, I can't give you a more precise answer than that. I think what they are trying to say in the example you give is that you take the average of the five papers (Reading, Use of English, Writing, Listening, Speaking) to get the overall score. Again, you might be able to contact Cambridge directly and see if they tell you, but I wouldn't be too worried about it either. At the end of the day, the students need to get it done themselves and too much maths might just be confusing anyway.

in the reading score, do you calculate part 1 (Use of English)+part 5 REeading + part 6 Reading + part 7 reading to get the correct number of answers for the Reading section?
@teacherphill
@teacherphill 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Eva, I suppose you are talking about B2 First and yes, there you calculate the reading score exactly the way you describe it. Note, however, that for parts 5 and 6 candidates receive two marks for each correct answer.

@teacherphill Жыл бұрын
Hi there, to be honest, I don't know how many marks you got for a score of 173. I'm sure you could calculate this, but the score is the only thing that matters anyway.
@Staruha91
@Staruha91 10 ай бұрын
I didn't get it. How do you convert the number of correct answers into this "scale"? Let's take B1 test, for example. There are 32 questions in RUE, a student answered 20 correctly. 20/32 is 62%. So, how many points does it translate to on this so-called "scale"?
@teacherphill
@teacherphill 10 ай бұрын
When you know the number of marks you scored, you need to check the conversion table that I show in the video from around 3:37. If your marks fall in between any of the numbers on the table, you need to extrapolate your score. I'm not a mathematician, but that's how you do it.
@Staruha91
@Staruha91 10 ай бұрын
@@teacherphillthank you so much for replying. But then again, how do I know this table in the video is specifically for the B1 exam? And one more problem - so if one student answered 32 questions correctly and another one answered 42 questions correctly, they’ll be getting exactly the same scale result. I don’t think this is how it works, because there is no way the difference between 10 correct and wrong answers is neglected. Sorry, didn’t mean to disregard your answer, I’m just all at sea, no one seems to know how it works.

@@teacherphillah, ok, I see, you said “extrapolate”, so yeah, I would need to build a whole mathematical model with a graph to see how many marks correspond to how many scale points.
