The world has never been more interconnected than it is today. The teenagers we teach already participate in social media networks that are global in scale, watch streaming content from all four corners of the globe, play online games that bring together players from different countries and different time zones, and wear fashions that would not be out of place anywhere. But how much do these young people really understand how the decisions and choices they make in their part of the planet affect those living elsewhere?
The Own It! course, especially through its Around the World and Project pages, offers plentiful opportunities for teachers to help raise students’ awareness of the role they can play as global citizens. In this webinar, we will look at ways in which the course can be used to this end and a number of activities that can be done in class to help develop global citizenship.
