@@MojoMountainMan In Orthoptera brachypterous wings look like they are not fully developed but there are differences between them and the wing pads seen in nymphs including the venation (parallel in brachypterous adults vs fanning downwards in nymphs) and nymph wing pads are "reversed." This specimen in the video has adult characteristics despite the shorter wings. Also, the fully developed ovipositor is another giveaway that this is mature female. This katydid appears to be a species of shield-backed katydid, the brachypterous condition (short wings) is common among shield-backs.

Wasn’t till I was older, I discovered how vicious, & fierce, katydids actually are, for some reason I was under the impression, that they were just boring plant eaters when I was a little kid (possibly ignorant gardening adults, that thought of all insects, as “aphids”)…they rival mantises, in their ferocity ! (I think they’re biologically related)….

No, they are only very distantly related. katydids are closer to crickets and grasshoppers, whereas mantises’s closest relatives are quite surprisingly termites and cockroaches.

I saw few battles ; The camel spider head has to be at least as the Katydid in order to win . In that case the camel spider scissors wins when it comes head to head and penetrates the flesh . Otherwise ,the claws of the Katydid are too powerful and neutralizes the camel ability
