The CEO of Land Rover should watch this Land Rover is moving away from its inherent success based on events such as the Camel Trophy

Funny how the SUV is now more popular than ever, yet events like the Camel Trophy no longer exist. Something like this needs to come back with manufacturers competing for top honours of most capable off-roader.

I think that had less to do with the women, and more to do with the producers increasing the drama, so scenes that would have ended up on the cutting floor, instead became prominent in the series. They have done the same with many other shows, such as the American Guns. First season was very down to earth and fairly drama free, second season, they turned the drama knob up to 11 and turned the show into a steaming pile of dog turd.

notice how throughout the years, as the vehicles change, the defender always remains as the rescue/support vehicles...

I'm sure some do .. just not a lot. And if you wanted to make an extreme kayak program, why not make one that was meant to be that from the beginning. But yes, I watched it for the offroading, myself. Once that disappeared along with with Land Rover, it lost the allure.

AFAIK, the main sponsors were the car cooporations, so cigarette advertisements wouldn't have mattered that much. As I understand it, they wanted to move the impetus from driving, over to team spirit and stuff like that. Unfortunately, people watched it for the driving. XD

I think the events before they introduced biking and Kayaking were the best. Truly an amazing event.

I'm dissapointed that they stopped making amazing offroad vehicles and moved to luxury SUVs. Camel Trophy was just amazing

This was the greatest marketing ever. I was a kid in the 1990's and knew very little about cars, but had seen a quick take of couple minutes of this in the news... and remembered it forever- that the Discovery was the greatest off road vehicle and one must buy a Land Rover. I would honestly buy a Camel Trophy built Land Rover at the dealer, new, exactly as shown on the Camel Trophy.
