Cameo is one of the most diverse Soul Funk underrated groups around. This was their big crossover pop hit. However you MUST check their other hits like "Shake Your Pants" "I Just Wanna Be", "Why Have I Lost You", "Sparkle", "Feel Me", "Hanging Downtown", "She's Strange"...just to name a few.

Such a classic. Saw Cameo at Hammersmith Odeon in the 80s bangin show and the audience danced in the aisles, good times! It was funny to see Geordie la Forge without his visor lol, his first screen role?

Nope - LeVar Burton's breakout roll was in 1977's Roots - he played young Kunta Kinte, 10 years before Star Trek: The Next Generation premiered in 1987. Also starting in 1983 he hosted the children's educational show, Reading Rainbow on PBS.

Jack, you nailed it. Although it has elements of R&B and funk it really felt more like pop to me. Personally I prefer several other Cameo hits to this like "Candy", "Attack Me With Your Love", "Sparkle", "Back and Forth", "She's Strange", "Just Be Yourself", "Freaky Dancin", "I Like it".

This not so much Pop as it is 80s funk (new Jack swung bent). As a big Purple Head ( die hard Prince fan), Cameo was a beast of a group and a group that I kept in heavy rotation back then and even today. At the time this came out, it wasn’t very similar to everything else that was on the radio. This song stood out which is why it became so popular.

Cameo was able to fully reinvent themselves in the mid-1980s as many of their fellow funk competitors had seen their commercial success dwindle. The horn near the end was also used in their 1988 single You Make Me Work.

Cameo.....God tier Funk band! Believe it or not Candy wasn't a big hit 4 them @ the time.....this was their biggest hit by far, Back & Forth from the same album was also quite big. Larry Blackmon was a fantastic producer, all Cameo albums sound gr8. If U want a fun track 2 react 2, try Put Your Mouth On Me by Eddie Murphy.

I can still remember every word and adlib of this song...but I think that this is my first time seeing the video! It was an absolute smash on urban radio (#1 on R&B Billboard charts). The album of the same title went #1 on R&B chart and #8 on pop charts. The phrase "Word Up!" was so popular that a music magazine marketed to youth was created with the same name. (🎶It was all a dream, I used to read Word Up! magazine... - Biggie , Juicy (his first hit) Thanks for reacting to the 80's and 90's stuff. Best era of music. Fun Fact: that guy with the bullhorn is (was?) the host of Reading Rainbow, which has been on forever. He also starred as Kunta Kinte on Roots (used to be the #1 watched "event" in TV history) and in Star Trek: Next Generation.
