Absolutely fantastic. A very good friend of my father was a photographer and a photographic judge. He said photos taken wit a Hasselblad always stood out from the rest.

and he was very very wrong. Hasselblad are nothing special, only on how they're built. Images are subpar compared to the hype.

I tried this Hasselblad 903 SWC when my friend from the US was with a visit my country and I got my hands on this camera just for a few clicks during our trip to the Dead Sea. I fell in love with the Super Wide open lens even found the results i got were a little bit too sharp for my taste. Anyway, I had 500cm already, and to purchase this 903 SWC wasn't possible without robbing a bank. So, I find the perfect way how to have the same (almost !!!) Super Wide open-angle and to stay with my first love - rechargeable 500cm. I found to myself a Distagon 40/4 CF almost new, supper supper awesome lens that also wasn't cheap, but hey, I stayed with one perfect body :-)

I love how many of Zeiss' designs were ahead of their time and only fully showed their potential when lens coatings caught up.

The last camera I would every give up from my collection. No, I’ll never give it up. I’m using the Voigtlander view finder having no distortion compared to the Hasselblad which has the advantage of a bubble level for seeing if you are holding the camera level.

What voigtlander veiwfinder do you use? I have a 903 SWC, but no veiwfinder...
@flipflopsleica

@@sanderhoersted3170 The 15mm angle finder (viewfinder), as the SWC has the same *diagonal* FOV as as 21mm lens on a 35mm camera has. But, it also has the same *vertical* FOV as a 15mm has. So take a 15mm viewfinder, crop square, and you end up with 38mm on 6x6

Another con would be you an only focus by zone focusing. With such a wide lens its not an issue unless your shooting subjects close up but swapping between the back and a viewfinder is a PITA. Regardless, absolutely amazing camera and would love to add one of these to my collection one day.

I've been shooting with an F3T and wanted to get a medium format camera. They happen to have one of these at my local camera shop. I put $1,200 down on it yesterday but honestly I'm tempted to go with a 500 C just because I don't know if I'll be able to get used to not seeing what I'm focusing on
@Visions_in_Toyko
@Visions_in_Toyko 2 жыл бұрын
@@RabidNemo the 500c is much more versatile and nailing the focus on the 903can be tough however as the lens is so wide from about f8 pretty much everything is in focus, its just a bit more tricky when trying to shoot wide open and the subject is close, you have to really get a feel for your distances

@@Visions_in_Toyko That's what I was told by a long time photographer friend of mine. I actually ended up backing out of the sale and getting a refund because I needed a new radiator in my car as well as a front brake overhaul. I did buy some lenses and film from the store to soften the blow of the refund but what can you do

Hasselblad’s are definitely an acquired taste. After using a 500c/m for a couple years I found it to be cumbersome and not intuitive. Put a TLR in my hands and it feels like an old friend (maybe because I grew up using my dad’s Yashica). Come to think of it, I still own Wildi’s hardback 500 c/m book and a macro conversion chart!

Let's not forget that in the day, there where no very wide-angle lenses for reflex camera's. The idea of the retrofocus design was to come later. Let alone that a real wide angle like a biogon will render very different from a retro focus design of similar focal length. One of the reasons leica lenses are what they are, real wide angle designs... In other words, if they wanted to introduce a very wide angle lens in those days, the only option was a non-reflex mirror design, ergo this camera. Compare it with the hologon for leica, same idea

You mostly do scale focusing. However it's so wide you'll get everything in focus if you shoot with a small aperture.

I wonder why so few companies actually design the position of the viewfinder for humans. Like on this camera there is no space for your cheek and nose as you try to look through it.

Cons ? There are no ! Prize is normal for a top quality camera. It is a normal camera for a professional photographer. To get used to the SWC is no problem for a Pro. You should not juggle with the SWC; buy a neck strap. Where are your lightmeter, A 12 backs, films, filters, other Hasselblad body? All in your other hand? Are you making a show with the SWC and not being a real Pro?
