Stoked to have a virtual walkthru of such an incredible place. Silly really but I did pause a few times and jump on to another browser tab to check conversion rates...

Just move the decimal back two places, and you'll have a pretty good estimate. So 10,000 yen becomes about $100.

Sadly in North America online retailing has killed off a lot of the bricks and mortar stores. You pretty much have to go to Asia to see something like this. Thankfully places like Hong Kong, Taipei and Tokyo also still have small camera retailers.

Great content. As a Swede, I wonder how this three-crown military Leica ended up in Japan. That story would be interesting to know. I have some Swedish military Nikkormas in my collection that are registered with the official military M-number.

Such a bucketlist place this is... Definitely going on the list for Tokyo. However there was one thing that caught my eye: the Luftwaffe Leica appears to have "Luftwaffen-Eigentum" engraved on the lens, which seems to be a spelling error or maybe an odd anachronism? I'm not at home with Leica's so I have no idea about the why's and how's of that.
@jeejbeej Жыл бұрын
I'm not native in German but it means 'property of the Luftwaffe'. It says 'Luftwaffen' because it's the object of the sentence and German grammar works like that.

This "food set" inscription looks like a typical and very amusing katakana conversion mistake. I can only assume it was meant to be "hood set", or does it really come with a bretzel ?

I have a dual lens sumiliux aspherical in my Huawei p10 plus smartphone, and a Zorki 4k with the awesome Jupiter 8 50mm f2 lens. I can't afford Leicas. In Slr cameras I have a Nikon FE, a Nikkormat ft2 with a 50mm f2 lens and the beautiful Yashica Fxd quartz with a 50mm f2 lens. I have replaced the leatherette body covering, and now it is pristine. The Fxd is the nearest I can get to a Contax ft3.

Great video thanks. Personally I’ve found best deals at Fujiya. Maybe the rent payments have something to do with it. Buying used in Japan can be highly variable. Lemonsha for example sells a lot of junk. Never rely upon the store ratings.

I visited my local camera store junk bin and found an old Minolta Hi-matic rangefinder. It was pretty rough but for only $5 it was worth a try. Replaced the light seals, recalibrated the rangefinder, cleaned the foggy viewfinder and lubricate the stiff shutter speed ring and it was working perfectly again. Depends on what you can find and restore, a bargain find can happen.
