Camera Matching utility in 3ds Max
Shortcuts used during the video
alt + b - setup viewport background
shift + g - quick way to hide geometry
s - for turning on snapping
This is a quick video showing you how you can match a camera/photo to your 3d model, so that it's easier to tweak proportions/details
And this can be also useful for projecting the photo onto a finished car, to get a great guide for texturing ( especially if you use traditional 2d texturing approach rather then 3d)

I'm struggling to set this up in max 2022 The campoint info seems to have changed a little between versions. Is it possible to get an updated video on this? Would greatly appreciate it.

hmmm what you do when there is a mismatch like here, the front spoiler is a bit to long. Do you fix it or it's possible that the photo is distorted? Sorry I'm not 3d modeler I'm just curious.

Distortion definitely plays a role too, you would try to lineup more cameras from different angles , to get the best average You can also try to favor certain area by adding more points there

please let me know if some of this didnt' make sense, the main goal with this method is that you already have a model and you are only matching camera to it ( using the same model ) for architecture, there are easier tools, such as match perspective lines kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4ScgaCnapWfsLc&ab_channel=ArchVizExplained

How you make the car dissapier while assigning points?

I believe it's shift + g ( for geometry) , you can do the same for s ( shapes) , c ( cameras ) , l ( lights ) Pretty handy

What are you doing since 2:40? I only see that you select campoint, then car disappear, and then you select another point.. 🙄 and then voila camera matches... I don't understand anything...

it's bit hard to see in the video , but I am selecting the points in the outliner and then clicking in 3d viewport on the photo to mark the same point on the image, therefore creating the 2d 3d relationship, which then allows the camera solver to figure out the lineup if you watch really closely, when I click red cross appears , and when I create a new one, it turns green ( since only the last one is red )
