Ah, thank you! I'm AC for an assessment and they didn't tell us how to fill this stuff out. This is super helpful!

I am super grateful for you and these videos! I am just about to start out in the camera department (hopefully, as long as this connection comes through!) and having not gone to film school, your AC videos are invaluable to me. Hope you're continuing to do well, both in your career and life in general! 🙂

If I could recommend a way to get your foot in the door, and the way I did, I would say go find find a local one man crew type person working on all sorts of stuff, and ask if you can either work for them for free, or if they have some kind of internship. + try and get onto a low budged set. That’s all to gain experience, knowledge, and most importantly - connections. But maybe you’ve already done that. After that I would find the next steps you need to take and reach out to as many places you can. Be bold, do good work, have a good attitude and work ethic. Be good at your job. And if you do all those things people will remember you and want to work with you again. Hope this helps anyone trying to get some advice. Everyone’s journey is different, but this is the rout I went, and it’s totally paid off.

Great advice to those just starting out! I'll also add here to be wary of not getting taken advantage of on free jobs. Sometimes you can get thrown into situations that just aren't good at all. 😊 thanks for the comment, Nick!

Mind you. You can get taken advantage of on paid jobs too. So.... just be aware of your working rights! It may not happen often, but it certainly does happen.

Great video! Is it really necessary to fill in camera reports when filming digitally? Aren't almost all the information included in the metadata for each clip? In Sweden (where I work professional) is it common for the script supervisor to write down some camera information, for example which lenses are used and possibly if it is something special like different shutter angle. But no one else makes camera reports if we are shooting digitally. :)

Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it. Despite all the info being included in metadata over here we still write out camera reports to have on record especially in multi camera setups. Makes it easy to find the info if we need to redo any shots or come back to a certain scene at a later time instead of going through files to find the relevant information. One copy is usually left in a folder with the camera department (often just kept in the truck) for ease of access. The script supervisor also writes down a few details about camera but not everything. I personally hated doing camera reports ha! Interesting to hear how other countries do it! :)

Q: I've always done my reports on paper. Do you use the ipad to make the reports on set? if so, what software and hardware did you use?

This is amazing! would you mind making a more in-depth version, for camera trainee's. As I'm a green trainee, and I was asked to do them once, and I was ashamed to say it felt like i was learning a whole new language. Thanks!
