Hikvision DS-2CD2542FWD is an outdoor 4MP mini dome and comes in 3 seperate model options, -I is the standard model, -IS includes a microphone, and -IWS includes both a microphone and wireless connection. IR LED, 3D Digital noise reduction and a range of other features come as standard. These models are also IK08 and IP66 weather and vandal resistant. Does it have hidden wi-fi antenna? If yes, does external antenna like in DS-2CD2141G1-IDW1 have any advantages versus hidden antenna or their wi-fi power precisely the same?

Yes, the Mini Domes do have a hidden WiFi antenna, the current version of the Mini Dome is the DS-2CD2545FWD-IWS and according to the datasheet for this model and the 2141G1 they both support a WiFi range of 50m and use the same 3 WiFi standards. (IEEE802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n)

@@Meisterio I wouldn't be able to say which would perform better in outdoor rainy conditions as we have never sold or tested the 2141G1 model and we have never done a proper comparison test of the effects of rain on the WiFi performance, but based on the lack of reports of this issue from our customers that would suggest it is not something to be worried about.

"A" is where you will want to drill a large hole if you are passing the cable through the wall or ceiling"..."A" is located bang in the middle of the bracket while the cable is heavily off-set to the extreme side. In fact it so offset, there is a dent in the mould of the mount-plate to facilitate its exit from the camera. And with the few mm's of clearance provided you will really struggle to get that cable through the middle and may even damage the cable from the severe mechanical force applied when tightening the camera down. My advice is to toss the useless Drill Template and use the actual mount-plate itself as the template. Just poke a pencil through and mark the locations of the holes, including the REAL cable exit and you will get a far better result. Never understood that central "A" location.

Thanks for the Videos. Next time, place camera on solid/concrete floor for Vandal Test and use bare surface instrument, like stone, to hit it with - Cameras are not mounted/vandalised on soft absorbing material... Appreciate your help!

is it record the voice to the NVR ? what is the benefit for mic ? and I can hear the voice while live stream or not ?

Yes it records to the NVR, the benefit of the mic can be wide ranging but primarily it's another layer of security (but it is limited and would only really be affective in small spaces) and finally your question about live streaming, it's not something we have a huge knowledge on as we predominantly sell them for security purposes but I couldn't see any reason why the audio wouldn't work on a live stream

Great video. Which Dome camera gives you better day and night image, Dome or mini dome ? I have purchased 2 Dome cameras to install in front of the house but now I'm starting to like the mini version as it is less visible

Hi Ashor, the choice between Domes and mini dome is all down to what your requirement of the camera is, in the daytime a 5MP dome and a 4MP mini dome will give you very similar performances, on the other hand at night the mini dome will not see as far as the domes as the domes have more powerful IR, but the larger dome is more prone to IR reflection (although the effect of this reflection has been reduced in the latest dome models like the 2155). so we would say if you want to record a large distance both day and night, then go for the Domes.

ok, I would just recommend sticking with the domes because as long as they are 4MP or higher you are not going to get any better performance from the mini domes, I can understand the size thing being an issue but the cameras being obvious can also be a bonus for deterring would be criminals or vandals (the domes also have a higher IK vandal rating than the min domes)
