I’m a professional photog and used my XT-4 for the first time last night. I feel like I’ve taken a major step down in quality from the canon 5d. Hopefully the out of the box settings are just badly chosen by the company and I can fix this. Feels like instead of a fuji I just bought an iphone 6 camera.

No not the best aps-c, the x-trans array sucks for fine detail. Even fuji must be admitting it because they use bayer sensors in their medium format cams. If they ditch x-trans, i would buy fuji without hesitating.

Great review, Gordon. Thank you for sharing. I have an X-T4 and I agree with everything you said. I upgraded from an X-T3 not for the video features but for IBIS with photography and for the better battery. From my limited testing, I'm very impressed with it. I took a photo of the street from my balcony at just after midnight - handheld at f/2, 1/10, ISO 3200 - and it was sharp. I tried the same without IBIS and, well... it wasn't. Makes sense but it's the first time I've used IBIS so it was exciting. I can't wait to get out there properly and do some street photography. Thanks again, Gordon. Take care.

Lovely review, Gordon. I really love my X-T4----so much I'm yet to take advantage of. Only shooting video, I don't miss full frame at all except for the convenience. My metabones FD to X mount speed booster gives me full frame and extra light when and if I need it--and PLENTY of bokeh. And love the new batteries and battery charger---worth the money, for sure. Now, I have small hands----and while the X-T4 is comfortable to hold, especially using the battery grip, I will be more excited to hear about the debut of X-H2. If it came out I'd buy it today...or even yesterday---if I could. Both had, for me, something as a video shooter I find indispensable: Cinema 4k. No cinema 4K--no purchase. I note you omitted remarking about using non-electronic lenses---that's all I shoot with. I have a set of X mount Rokinon's that are wonderful to use. And the focus peaking is the best in the business, hand's down. Combined with the ability to move the focus box and punch in ANYTIME and refocus makes the T4 a video MF shooter's dream. No one mentions this feature, but, IMO, for video and manual focus shooting it's Fuji's jewel in the crown. Using it I NEVER miss a focus pull or have to re-do a focus pull because I missed critical focus. Every camera that aspires to attract video shooters should have this feature. I loved the X-H1, image was beautiful, and body remains, IMO, unsurpassed. If it had better batteries I'd buy it again today. Alas, the X-H1 does lack the X-T4's new Vampire simulation. :-( Fortunately, not a deal breaker for me. ;-)

Excellent in-depth review. I've been looking at Fuji for a long long time now and decided to jump into their eco system. Was a toss up between xt3 or this but with the extra features and battery life, an extra £200 pound was worth it. I've also paired it with the 16-80 lens. Looking forward to getting to know this new piece of equipment when it arrives... Great channel and wetted the appetite even more

A limitation of the XT3 and the fuji X series, is the remote camera app when recording video. Wai Lam did a thorough review on the Fuji Remote Camera App, pointing to these shortcomings that make it unusable for video control (no ability to focus, freezing of the image), that make it difficult to use for instance when self-recording and trying to set the focus. I suppose they haven't updated the app for the XT4. The GH5 app, comparatively, is very complete and useful. Thank you for your review.

Hi Gordon, I really loved this review, super detailed. I'm looking for a camera that's good for still, but furthermore can do 4K 60fps, and this seems to tick all the boxes. Here are my requirements: -4K 60fps, mic jack input (this has USB-C) -Good AF, and don't want to be fiddling with manual adjustments on the lens -Sub £2k with everything -Easy enough to use for a novice - I'm no pro like yourself or most who would be getting this camera I'm currently using a Sony RX100 MK1 (yes old school), for all my videos on KZbin and still on my website. It's good, but really want to step it up a level. Would you suggest this camera over say the Panasonic Lumix DC-S5; or any other camera you can think of that will fulfil my requirements? If so, which lens kit would you suggest. Oh, and if I disable IBIS - would I still get the choppy effect you mentioned when panning - as that's important for me for B-roll footage? Thank you so much in advance!

Owning Sony A7sii, Nikon d750 and Canon 5dmk4 over the years finally dove into Fujifilm. My xt4 arrived a few days ago and I can't say enough good things about it. Great review. Thanks. Is the sensor crop for slow motion for all high frame rate speeds or just 200/240? Also the auto focus hunting seemed worse when you were in front of the lights compared to when you were walking in the woods. Were the AF settings different in these two shoots? Thanks!

Thank you for the excellent review. I changed from Nikon (D810) to an X-T2 and added an X-T3. I like much about the Fuji system but Lightroom just does not handle the raw files well. (I saw some comments below but can't find them again.) I have taken about 50,000 photos with the cameras and notice the issue, especially at higher ISO values. Yesterday I did a test by saving both the jpg and raw files and importing them into the latest version of LR. The SOOC jpg file clearly had many fewer "worms" than the raw file (at a 4:1 view). Part of my photography hobby is capturing birds, and I find that I often lose fine details, even after following various sharpening routines. I have tried Iridient and Capture 1. And even considered going back to Nikon. Any suggestions?

Auto focus is the only slight let down in an otherwise almost perfect camera system. No mention (?) of available lenses and ISO performance. It made a nice change for the vlog in the woods. Detail seemed to be in abundance. The very best reviews on your channel Gordon, and not to be missed.

I so definitely want to get into the Fujifilm ecosystem, it's so exciting, especially with the X-T4. I mean I was considering getting a used X-T3 body and using it with my old FD lenses for talking shots but filming myself would be a bit hard without that articulating screen. (I could get that mirror that attaches to the hotshoe but that's a pain)

Many thanks for your great review again. Around 12:40 you mention the 100-400 lens which I also have on my XT-2. Would this lens benefit from the XT4's AF system compared with the one from my XT2? I have more un-sharp results that I would like to have with this lens. Even with high shutter speeds the lens sometimes totally miss focus.

Hi Gordon, great review. I have the X-T3 and I am a stills photographer - architecture, street, still life and landscape. I have the 18-55 kit lens and the 23 mm F2. I have really no specific need for IBIS, the X-T3 handles even slow shutter speeds with wide apertures extremely well. Should I really bother with an upgrade? Thanks.

As an XT3 owner I think this is a very minor upgrade, IBIS is definitely good but not a must, specially if you r using a stabilized lens, the bigger battery of course was a so much needed change, these are the 2 things for me yet not enough reasons to upgrade from the X-T3.

helo. i read in a fujirumors article that the xt4 can shoot "15fps or even 30 fps with crop and completely blackout free". does that mean that the continuous bursting goes like forever (til card fills up, or battery runs out)? i mean, without stopping for the buffer thing..? im asking cuz i know cameras stop after like couple of seconds, to deal with the buffer thingy, and then u have to wait til u can do burst again.

Hi, Gordon: As always, your reviews are some of the best in the business! My main concern about the XT4, despite it's high level of functioning, has to do with the massive and inexpensive line of generic lenses (Sigma, et al) that are made for my Sony A6600. I also love the very small travel size of the A6600 that is so easy to carry when I shoot all day (while traveling). Thanks again, and thanks to Fuji for pushing all camera manufacturers.

Another great review Gordon. Ive been watching your videos since the olympus e520 video. I like the xt4 really everything about it but fuji just will not let go of that 2.5mm remote socket. I have to wonder are they just being stubborn about it or is there perhaps something you can do with a 2.5mm remote that you cant by just simply adapting a 2.5mm to 3.5mm? Im by no means an expert but I dont see what could be lost in letting people have bative 3.5mm headphone and mic jacks while just adapting any 2.5mm remote to 3.5mm with a simple adapter. I mean I use a remote much less than I would headphones and even then the fujis have the ability to use a screw in shutter release on the shutter button which more than fills my needs. Im just at a loss there its like how apple has been for the longest time with proprietary ports. Are they just being stubborn or is there something they know that I dont?

Thank you for this excellent and easy to follow review! There's just one thing I'm missing (and for some reason nobody else seems to think about it too). It's the quality of the audio input. For example the signal to noise ratio, limiters, line or mic input selection and the overall sound quality. It's borderline frustrating not a single video of this camera addresses the audio quality. Is there any chance you could do a little follow up on this?

My test sample has already been collected by Fujifilm unfortunately, but I do have another vlogging video coming soon which uses the Rode wireless go again.

Great review Gordon. I have my X-T4 now and want to really test the AF in video mode using different custom settings that can be changed. No doubt face detection works well but I am curious if different settings will make any difference. Also, I did not like digital stabilization at all. Seems jerky.

Best camera reviews ever Gordon! Such a compelling choice for me, but not enough to switch from my current olympus system. IBIS doesn't seem that effective, at least in video mode.. Starting to think there will never be a ILC platform that beats m43 when it comes to stabilization. Incredible features this camera packs though, like the 4k fps & bitrate options

Yep, that's the benefit of a smaller sensor - better potential IBIS.

Originally I thought it was a missed opportunity when I got the Xt3 months before the confirmation of the Xt4. But I'm not missing out much.

The only thing putting me off this camera is the lenses! What sort of choices are available to buy in terms of lenses? I know Sony and canon have a big range but I couldn’t find many for Fuji or would you have to buy lens adapters?

The major drawback for video in the XT3 is that it stutters (creates irregular movement) when doing a panning, even on a fluid head tripod, and most of the time that ruins the shot, when working on a gimbal or when panning, and that comes from the sensor or the processing, which haven't changed much in the XT4. I see at 16:11 some slow and short panning movements, and when you look at it, there is some stutter, even if there are good conditions (slow movement, relatively distant subject), which makes me fear that the issue persists and that makes it unusable for me while moving the camera.

Wow! I REALLY like this camera. Everything from the classic styling to SOOC film simulation processed jpegs, although I kinda think the those sweet looking analog dials might slow me down a bit. Overall I suspect that I'd be purchasing this camera primarily to shoot those gorgeous jpegs and a small 'low light' enhancement isn't a significant enough advancement over my current G9 to buy into a completely new system personally. Excellent review of the X-T4 Gordon, although it actually reminded me of just how much of great camera I have in G9. Seems the G9 and X-T4 are probably the best bang for buck available right now.

Can someone help me, about to pull the trigger on the XT-4, but im struggling to decide which kit lense to go for. I would mostly be taking pictures of cars, do you think the 16-80mm is needed? its only roughly £150 more than the 18-55mm.
