I wish we had these types of debates in the US, where politicians are properly held to account for their actions.

The real problem with government is incompetence and lack for political diversity. There should be 4 to 5 main political parties in an election to ensure political parties are accountable to the people. Corruption and a police state mentality has created none democratic elections. UKIP would be a step forward for the UK and A new political party must be established in the United States.

nigelbulls23 The US has breakdown of it's democratic system that is caused both by antiquated laws and civics. We have issues with gerrymandering, politically drawn electoral districts, a ridiculous incumbency rate in both houses of the congress and a new wave of laws that has lead to disenfranchisement of the vote for vast portions of society. The other major issue in the US is lobbying and the infusion of money in politics, which means a politician will not win without money and must adhere to the whims of the donors once elected. I agree more parties need to be introduced in to the political system to allow for greater diversity, however, until the above are solved it won't do any good, as the system is rigged (i.e., by way of Ross Perot and Ralph Nader). Either way, our media is completely muffled and bought out by corporate interests, the "news" here is completely a shame and a farce.

The UK currently has a high unemployment rate. Instead of punishing citizens who can't find jobs. Lets examine the role corporations have played in creating unemployment. Corporations have outsourced manufacturing jobs to Asia to avoid laws and taxes. Both the UK and United States must punish these corporations by applying carbon taxes on imported products. The taxes collected from taxes could be apply to tax cuts for corporations who bring manufacturing back to the United States or UK.

The UK economy is on life support right now. International indictors suggest the economy hasn't recover despite pro government propaganda from BCC and CNN. Interest rates haven't moved for over 7 years now. Are low interests rates a sign of a healthy and vibrant economy.

paxman is a tory, yes, and that's what you have to expect from the bbc, having massive political bias towards the tories, because they are a government puppet. but you must know as well that labour caused a huge recession and brought in debts among the biggest in history, and its also been proven that every time labour left government the economy was in shambles, so i'd suggest voting tory.
