I was 9 years old when this show first came on and remember even at that young of a age how real this show seemed to be. Buck Cannon was my favorite and the touchy relationship he had with big brother John was a realistic sibling relationship. Cam Mitchell was a wonderful actor and made Buck Cannon the character come alive. Sadly all the great shows that challenge the stereotypes and rock the boat never seem to last. I loved Bonnaza but it was old Hollywood with stale plots after a while. The HC had well thought out plots and sometimes uncomfortable storylines but that’s what made it real IMO..

Buck was my favorito on Chaparral.Funny how alike he & Blue looked in some of those pix.Henry Darrow said he would disappear when tourists came around though.May they all RIP.Lovely music too.Delighted so many people thought so much of him.

Thanks for this one. I had a huge crush on Cameron when I was 14 and the TV series was in full swing in Europe. He was extremely attractive. I knew Cameron was of Scottish origin but I didn't realise he also had Irish in him. Much love to you Cameron, from an Irish fan!!

Ilse Bothof, I appreciate what you are saying but Wikipedia lists four children, Robert Cameron Mitchell, Camille Mitchell, Cameron Mitchell Junior and Fred Mitchell. In all honesty, the part that I find confusing is that on other websites they list more children, Kate, Jono and "Jake". On any of these sites, if you click on "Jake" it shows a young Justin Bieber lookalike in his teens from Hereford in England that wasn't even born when Cameron Mitchell died. If anyone can enlighten me, I would be grateful.

Cameron was in one of the very early science fiction films 1951s Flight to Mars released in the early cinacolor process. He gave an acclaimed performance in around 1957 in Monkey on my back , a story about a boxer with a drug problem.

I very much agree with Dieter Corzelius, The High Chaparral was a much better series than Bonanza. All of the characters are much loved and endearing (even grumpy Big John) but none more so than Uncle Buck and Cameron Mitchell made it all look so easy almost like he wasn't acting. The story lines are always great and unlike Bonanza, The High Chaparral was filmed mostly outdoors where Bonanza was done mainly in a studio. I also love the genuine affection that Victoria Cannon felt for her sometimes dopy brother in law Buck. I doubt if there is anybody out there that wouldn't want Buck Cannon as their pal, at least until he comes up with another hair-brained business idea!!
