Why is the engine so noisy?

More sound when you open the hood. Listen closely, it's the same sound level as any other car on the market. All the sound deadening material made their 90s cars boring to drive. They finally realize this after ~30 years. If you test drive their current cars, they are no longer plush either, as oppose to their 90s car. Lexus is going for sportier rides, and owners are complaining about rattling noise, and more use of plastic. There's a reason their sales is so low worldwide. They rank 3 (in sales, not prestige) in the US because they price their cars much lower than the Germans. Got to give something to those bottom feeders. Good for you if you still want to buy one.
