I was blown away by Camila's performance on Tiny Desk. She's a genius at being completely original and authentic with her music. Infusing her Latin heritage into pop music in the most seamless & unique way. Bringing traditional instruments and sounds like Cuban congueros, Mexican mariachi & Afro-Cuban Santería chant into mainstream music. BRILLIANT!!!

Her chest voice and upper belts have really improved, more range to be shown. Because she hasn't hit a Bb5 live until now. She usually stayed around G5 and A5 briefly. Easy Tiger

Se ve que no entiendes demasiado de música, porque jamás te puede parecer bien que un artista no sepa callarse para dar protagonismo a sus músicos y bridarles la oportunidad de que puedan disfrutar también del show y poder mostrar su arte, es un insulto tremendo a los que luego ella llama "su banda", hombre pues "tu banda" también quieren brillar, no solo están ahí para hacerte a ti mas grande, así que aunque sea solo 15 o 20 segundos, cierra la boca y deja que la música también hable, porque además para meter siempre el mismo y repetitivo late motiv, ad-libs / riffs etc, pues mira, la primera vez que lo hace vale, pero después de oírlos durante todo el concierto acaba por resultar aburrido y predecible y no es un problema solo de Camila cabello, es un problema de la música actual, que parece que siempre tenemos que estar oyendo una voz durante el tema, y eso hace que nos perdamos todo lo demás, porque no hay hueco en un tema de 3 minutos para poder disfrutar de un piano, guitarra, bajo etc....

@@cuartofreak I agree with u regarding pauses and silence in some songs, sometimes those are needed to emphasize a feeling, an instrument... But there are actually such pauses in Camila's tiny desk, gaps where she lets the instrumental part to do it's beautiful job and letting the others to shine. Regarding her interventions between lyrics, it's a matter of taste, I don't think they were repetitive. And sorry if I misunderstood, but she doesn't say "my band" with arrogance or smth. It isn't an exclusively instrumental concert, it's a vocal one accompanied by a lot of talented musicians. A lot of people appreciated this tiny desk performance because a well known pop star blended so well with so many musicians, instruments and singers and we don't know their names individually except Camila's, but we now know how good they sound. I actually remembered some faces from her previous performances 😊

@@cuartofreak True, it is a prepared tiny concert. It isn't like: hey, we came to sing for u, I think we have time for 5 songs, we have 1 camera, so looking in front is enough, let's do it. I'm not saying that Ed, Alicia Keys, Sting or others weren't professional, no way. I just say that the approach was tiny, simple. If the instrumental part was 100% previously recorded in this TDC, those musicians have really good acting skills. Also, even there are many shots, more cameras, there are so many people and there's so much stuff happening simultaneously that isn't totally captured. For example: mariachi band sings also vocally on some part and you only see them playing instruments until...surprise, camera moves and you can see at least one guy singing vocally. Anyways, like you observed, it isn't like an usual tiny desk concert, it isn't quite tiny in tnr office, so it is a matter of taste like in all things. I mean ed's (just bcz u mentioned him) bad habits is kinda trash comparing to his previous body work, but general public likes that song and if I'm not mistaken, I think he has a Grammy nom for it? 🙂

She is absolutely fabulous!!! Mariachi is difficult to integrate with pop music, AfroCuban rythyms and make a smooth production but this is just sublime. This is the quality I expected from J. Lopez. With depth, and vocal chops beyond the superficial manic sample culture, this young woman is a pro!!! Totally submersed in and permeated by the real craft and true emotion of now several cultures!
