For a freshly independent artist the amount of success that Camila has gained is insane! And she did it on her own. It is always easier when you’re not alone, just like the girls from Fifth Harmony. As for me, fifth harmony haven’t shown anything new or interesting this year. This just proves that every single one of them would never be able to be as successful and outstanding on their own as Camila. She will grow so much as a solo artist, which she has already done. Yes of course a girl GROUP needs to harmonize imo. Musical ensembles of any instrument type tend to harmonize. Harmony is a very, very basic musical element that is used in compositions across many cultures and across time. Otherwise, they would just be singing in unison and any solo artist can sing by themselves. And i think their harmonies are very, very weak. You can look on youtube at the many examples of groups without major record deals doing much more nuanced harmonies and complex arrangements. I think EnVogue is an example of an ideal mainstream pop vocal group. Their songs incorporated harmony in a way that necessitated every member of the group. With 5H, they don't focus on harmony that much and just take turns sining back to back to back that there is no point for them to be together if they are not going to sing TOGETHER mostly. If you listen to any solo artist album, there is more harmony on those albums than a 5H album.

I like both but when you compare this year, Camila won by far! I mean she had the longest running song at no1 since Adele with Hello and she is the most listened to female of all time on Spotify (2nd in the world to Ed sheeran). Havana the movie was no1 on the trending page on KZbin and she became the face of over 3 major brands, while to be honest 5h haven't done all that much in comparison. Their album was bomb but didn't get as much recognition as their previous work, although their songs have charted, they haven't stayed in the charts like camila, suggesting that it is pre existing 5h fans who are purchasing the songs when camila is getting more and more fans everyday. 5h need to expand if they want a chance against camila.

I love both groups and have to admit that I was Team Fifth Harmony once Camila left, but soon I got bored because Fifth Harmony let all their hype go down the drain. I truly believed they could have been more successful if they took advantage of their hype with Work From Home and the fact that Camila left and used it to advertise their next upcoming album. Camila wasted no time by releasing collaborations and singles to get people hyped with her upcoming self titled album. Not that it's a bad thing, just means that she took advantage. And yes, by the looks of it Camila definitely has a bigger budget than Fifth Harmony, but I believe that most of it comes from her brand deals. GUESS partnered with Camila and her team for Havana's music video. Also I wish Fifth Harmony could have wrote their album with more feelings and soul. Down was catchy but not the hit I was really hoping for. Gonna be honest I prefer Gucci Mane's part. I guess I'm just tired of the repeating lyrics. "Uh huh I'm Worth it" "Work Work Work Work" "Down Down Down". Speaking of Down, I loved their controversial performance, just wish it wasn't controversial. After so many months and then they decide to throw shade? Yeah that wasn't my favorite. All of the girls for a while have been talking about writing their own music so they could relate to it, Camila has done that with her singles "Real Friends" and "Never be the Same" and I'm guessing her whole album. The deepest Fifth Harmony got was "Bridges" and "Don't Say You Love Me". On performance level, Camila has this energy and passion that draws you into the performance. She's always switching it up with back up dancers, dance breaks, lyric changes, and even note changes. I've watched several clips from Fifth Harmony's performances throughout this year, always the same dance breaks, same sound, and I have to say this but laziness. I never see the same energy from Fifth Harmony and maybe it's because they're bored doing the same stuff over and over again, I would be too. They also have worked hard this year, finishing their 7/27 tour, Normani on DWTS (She deserved better), and recording their album. I understand too that all this comes down to their budget and promotion. Camila has a ton of that. In Hollywood you have to make brand deals, you have to connections, and you have to work hard. I wish that Fifth Harmony's team could find them some brand deals which would help them a ton. Another thing. the Fan Base. Camila always had the largest fan base and as of right now she currently has 14.8 Million followers on Instagram and Lauren (Not Surprising smh) has the most from Fifth Harmony with 5.2 Million followers on Instagram. The rest have around 3 million each. As of now all the girls have released solo projects. My favorite has to be Ally's collab "Look At Us Now", that song deserved better. BTW, Normani's solo project for me is her DWTS performances, also they're my second favorite. And yes Camila had a little push with her singles while she was still in the group and she gave others of taste of what she is. All in all Fifth Harmony is still the biggest girl group this generation and Camila is a break through solo artist. Let's hope next year everyone brings their game on. Yes, I'm sorry this was so long.

For this one I have to go with Camila Cabello had the better year. But you have to look at the facts... Camila Cabello released “Crying In The Club”, and “I Have Questions” both of the songs charted well and stay on the charts for reasonable amount of time. Then Camila released “Havana” which to be honest was one of the biggest songs of the year and charge it extremely well hitting number one! Fifth Harmony released “Down” which in my opinion wasn't a good first single off the album to released, it charted decently but fell off the charts. Then they released “He Like That” which don't get me wrong it's a catchy song but it doesn't seem single material they're single should have been “Angel” and the promotional single should have been “He Like That”. Also releasing a music video for every song they release wasn't the best idea because people nowadays look at the amount of views you get and the views on their videos are not as high as they used to be. I'm a bigger harmonizer that Camilizer. ..but Camila had the better year ....she ruled this year with CITC peaking at 42..Havana having a 2 spot and she just dropped out of the group and with all those top song in the charts she still managed to hold her no.3 spot strong with Havana currently ...also she gained 3 million subs really quickly (congrats to 5h on 10 mil) and she is on her way to become one of the most successful artist of 2018 (she is gonna be more famous than Ari...Demi etc.) soon .... (Demi was right when she said that Camila was really shining ...on the X factor ...she was meant to be solo always
