@@NoSweat69, no, because she is a nice, likeable, down-to-earth person with a great sense of humour and duty. Celebrities have committed suicide over bad press coverage far milder than what Camilla endured. She went through years of vitriolic hatred and virtual imprisonment in her own home without the slightest murmur of complaint to the papers or exclusive tell-all interviews and still came out of it in dignity beside the man she loves.

@joancooley1387 , it wouldn't matter even if she didn't. Camilla's title is her legal entitlement as the wife of a king. That's it. Even if Elizabeth II said "I disapprove of Camilla and don't want her to become Queen" it wouldn't have made a jot of difference. The late Queen was merely using her soft power to signal her approval of Camilla and put the controversy around the latter's history to bed once and for all. The Jubilee speech regarding her "sincere wish" vis-à-vis Camilla was in fact years in the pipeline as part of Operation London Bridge.

@@elgee6202 Mmm, (feel free to correct). Camilla didn’t have the aristocratic background, when she ‘first’ entered Charles’s life. Interesting that he left to take up Royal ‘duties’. Were decisions made (soft approach) or eyes open to the fact that the bond between Charles and Camilla was unbreakable. The line of succession was paramount. Don’t think anyone can accuse Camilla of an overbearing arrogance. She has never sought the limelight.. her dedication to King and Country undoubtedly genuine.

No, it hasn't. The title "Queen" is exactly the same as it always has been: it belongs either to a female monarch or a king's wife. The continuance of the status quo cannot, by definition, be a downgrade; it's just more of the same.

It could not be "reserved for Catherine" or anyone else. By law, the wife of the King is The Queen. It would take a literal act of Parliament to change it, and the agreement of all 14 realms would be required as well. Barring action by Parliament, it was inevitable that Camilla would one day become Queen from the moment Charles slipped the ring on her finger. And by the way, it's not "Princess Catherine". She is The Princess of Wales." The form "Princess (name) is reserved for Princesses of the blood.

Yes, Camilla IS the queen consort. That is the descriptive name for the king’s wife. It distinguishes her from a queen regnant such as Queen Elizabeth II. But Camilla’s style/title is Her Majesty The Queen. Every king’s wife has that style/title. Queen Elizabeth wished that Camilla be queen consort, rather than Princess Consort as had been previously announced. She didn't mean "not Queen". Queen Elizabeth knew that a Queen consort’s title is Her Majesty The Queen (or informally HM Queen (name). In calling the new queen Her Majesty The Queen (or informally, HM Queen Camilla), Elizabeth’s wishes have been precisely followed. Queen Camilla became Her Majesty The Queen on September 8, 2022, but was temporarily styled as the Queen Consort to avoid confusion with the late Queen Elizabeth and to ease the transition. They chose the Coronation as an arbitrary date to officially use her rightful style/title of Her Majesty The Queen. In addition, Queen Elizabeth’s statement was only a blessing. It carried no force of law. Even if had she wanted to call Camilla “Mickey Mouse”, it wouldn’t have mattered. She had no power to determine titles for a future King’s wife.
