Learn about the incredible artwork 'L'Implorante' by Camille Claudel, and how it travelled to the USA for a series of exhibitions. Camille Claudel's masterwork, L'implorante, is on view now at the Art Institute of Chicago. This beautiful and loving exhibition, "Camille Claudel," runs through February 19, 2024 before moving to the Getty Museum where it will open on April 2, 2024.
L'Implorante is the young Camille, laid bare with soul-wrenching longing, imploring her lover Auguste Rodin to remain with her. In 1905, Claudel worked in Paris with her friend and esteemed art dealer, Eugène Blot, to cast in bronze both a large-scale edition (this one) and a small-scale edition of L'Implorante. The sculpture is featured in her catalogue raisonné, and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity signed by the author of the catalogue raisonné.
