What a stunning surprise, this sparkling, lost diamond of a piece! It anticipates Debussy and Ravel's interest in ancient melodies. Where has this piece been? Why so long neglected? How danceable!

This is a pleasant surprise but then, I suppose, Saint-Saens seldom fails to surprise me these days! Pure delight as a listening experience, especially the Scottish Idyll and Gypsy Dance. Frankly, ALL of the divertissement is a joy.....
