This is the knife that was issued to me in the submarine service when I served during the Vietnam War. My knife still has no looseness, but I’ve babied this thing since it was new. I still have it today and would never sell it.

Thanks for the shout out. That was an excellent price for the knife. Looks like you did a great job on getting it back together. Normally the spike will wobble when closed but not so much in the open position. I don't think the wobble issue when using. It could date from anywhere from the 1960's all the way through the 1990s with that tang stamp. As for the blade. I'd try cleaning it out a bit more. It seems like it is catching on something, unless the pivot is just too tight. The best thing about this one is the Delrin doesn't seem yo have the annoying the white residue that you find on a lot of these . Looking forward to the other older knives. Great video.

That introduction song was perfect. There's something about marlin spike knives that call to me also. I don't sail, or fish anymore, but those large sheepsfoot blades are awesome. My Rough Ryder marlin spike locks up solid with no play.

Thanks for the info partner, and your kind comments about the song. I hoped it would go over well. I suspect the spike just has a lot of use. Take care partner!

I'm late to the party, but I'll chime in anyway. The Case rigger's knife I used to have (I believe it may have been manufactured by Camillus) didn't have much play in the marlinspike that I can recall. I intend to get another one someday. Though yours has definitely seen some hard use, I'd say you did well on it. Thanks for showing it!

Your description of the "vintage" knife videos that you have coming made me smile. Personally I don't think that the word "vintage" should be applied to anything made during my lifetime. Of course my granddaughter would disagree! (I have the same feeling when I see museums displaying things that I remember using!) I will look forward to seeing those fine "classics." ;-)

Omg thank you so much I’m still sitting here I’m going to get some oil on this sheath then I want to do some cutting with it because I’ve never felt anything so sharp........ I can’t touch it with my finger!!!!!! Thanks my friend

This was a great show - intro and knife. Work the blade with some light oil and I'm sure that the snap will return.💪 I used to sail (couldn't now) - small boats are the most fun. Have you ever seen the kids film "Swallows and Amazons" - that type. ⛵ Swimming - I only learned in my twenties and I couldn't do without it now. I'm so looking forward to the pools opening again. "What should we do with the drunken sailor... 👍

I've never seen that movie, but sounds like you really enjoyed the sailing. Good advice about the oil, I will do that :) Be well partner!

@@KnifeDetector It's a charming 1950's adventure, innocent, when children had freedom. You'll only have to wiggle the blade a few (💯) times. 😂

I have been looking for a good marlin spike knife. Who makes higher quality versions? I may pick up a Rough Ryder, but want to get a higher end later.

Tobias has a really good video comparing them, I really like the vintage Schrade model, not the new ones, but the older ones. Check out Tobias' channel, he made a video on it. :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaXWn6inr5mMhJI

KD, you have to go to a swimming pool and do some adult swimming classes. Not only will it save your life if you fall in water, you'll be able to save a life if you see someone else in trouble. I pray that this never happens, but what if your with a family member and they fall in water. Please learn to swim, for your own sake more than anyone!✌
@KnifeDetector4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for you kind thoughts, It is on my list of things to do. I have gone to an adult swimming class, but the instructor was an 80 pound girl, and I didn't have much confidence she could pull me out of the water. I managed to hold my breath and swim once from half way down the pull to the end, but I kept my head down and held my breath. I didn't stop until my head hit the other side. I wasn't hurt, but that is the closest I have come to swimming. I think trying again is in my future though. Be well friend!
@jock-of-ages734 жыл бұрын
@@KnifeDetectorLoL. I see why you left that class, she's not the best sounding person to be teaching adults. That's good to know your thinking of more classes though. I didn't mean to harp on, i'm around water and have seen a couple of incidents, the worst part is knowing that an hour for a week with the right person in a decent pool could have changed things. Anyway, all the best, my friend. We'll chat soon no doubt, i won't bring up the swimming, it feels kinda preachy reading it again. Looking forward to the next knife video. ATB.
