I have walked eleven Caminos and never have had a phone with me. Also I speak Italian and never have had problems. Digital me dam I do the Camino the old fashion way.

Just clarifying WhatsApp. There is no "WhatsApp" number as the app is used to message or call via each user's mobile phone number. All you have to do is download the app and message those who also use the app.

Thanks, Maureen. It’s a bit of a technicality at best, as many businesses list their website hone number so those not connected can find them on WhatsApp. Buen Camino!
