We took the exact opposite view. The least you have, the less to worry about. We took cash and 1 prepaid travel card. No credit card! No eftpos card. No fanny pack or bum bag or ungainly neck pouch. All these do is draw attention to the fact that you have valuables. Just pop the credit card in the top of your bag. Cash in a ziplock bag. In NZ here you cant always use cash, eftpos is universal so it took us some time to work out how much cash to carry. We just withdrew off the travel card as needed. When you leave your bag, pop cash, passðort and money in your pocket. At night i put my phone inside my sleeping bag, and my bag has a wee zip pocket where I put my earrings every night. Keep it simple!

great info...again! Kate! yes, the packet is great, until you leave it on the bunk above and have to go back and retrieve it...but the honesty of the Camino is awesome, as it was saved for me. Still, be safe, be prudent, and of course, buen camino...just made plane reseverations for late August for the Frances...be well!

I wear a silk money belt under my shirt that has my bank cards and big money. In my hip pack, I carry my pilgrim pass and passport in one of those plastic sleeves you can get from Ivar on the Camino forum. It keeps them looking nice. iPhone in there too. Money belt stays on me 24/7 except for showering. I usually pop it into my hip pack and toss both into a plastic bag that goes into the shower with me. The exception is for those albergues that have lockers (and those seem to be more and more common) Also make note that when getting money out of an ATM, that you use the ones that are physically inside of a bank when it is open, so that you can put your money away into your money belt or neck pouch more discretely. Doing this out on the street is less than ideal. Waterproof is good. I fell into a creek on the Portuguese Camino. Rock tipped. Glad my hip pack was waterproof.

I also have a trouser belt that has a hidden zip for hiding my extra cash. It totally just looks like a normal belt and I can keep the cash I need for the day only in my wallet.

Hey, Kate - You showed two different credentials in your video. It had never occurred to me that they could be different sizes! If you would be so kind, what are the dimensions of the larger one? I want to be sure to get a waist pack or cross-body bag that will be large enough. Thanks in advance!

Hi! It’s about 7x4 inches (a tiny bit smaller). 😄

Hi - I saw one of your other videos having to do with doing Laundry on the Camino. You didn't particularly like the laundry bag you took to wash laundry in so do you have a laundry bag you would suggest?

Any “dry bag” should work! Check REI or Amazon! They are more meant to keep water out than in, but I’ve seen other people say these do the trick.

Just a quick note, it's sometimes an idea to make sure your used, sweaty, stinky underwear and socks are near your valuables in your ruck. It's likely to put off the noses of would be intruders. Yes we have bum bags here, we seem to laugh a lot when Americans talk about their fanny packs......thank you for all your great articles.....I'd better go now before I get dragged into confession......
