Based on your recent experience with your son & nephew. Would be curious to hear an in-depth pro vs con video about walking camino alone vs walking camino with friends/family.

Hi Greg, I avoided albergue this year due to the overwhelming crowds and scared of getting sick. My son's and I did the Camino Frances in 30 days with three days off. We are planning to come back and do the Norte. I have done the Camino Frances 4 times and it's time for a change.

Yes, so far just the Frances. I have some reasons I do that one. That's where most of the people are and there's plenty of water and food everywhere. I'm not really interested in camping or walking longer distances than is comfortable. I get enough solitary confinement at home. When I'm on the Camino I'm looking more for the community. Most of the alternate routes Don't have as many people walking.

@@TheCaminoGuide I have done it three times now so I see where you're coming from but I have also done the Portuguese from Porto which is also pretty busy and the Primitivo which joins the Frances in Melide, for me this was my favourite, really beautiful. I just discovered your channel and saw so many videos, I assumed you had walked more of the routes.

Another great video! Same age as you - same issue with the 15lbs of extra weight that is almost impossible to lose even with a meager diet and strenuous exercise. Might need to implement the annual "camino" plan to get rid of it . . . of course the issue would be keeping the 15lbs off once you return from camino.

I think maybe it can't be done. I go to Europe and the weight drops off instantly. I come back to the US and it comes right back. Doesn't matter how much I exercise or diet. Might be something in the water. 🤔

I have an issue with gluten, so I eat gluten-free bread, pasta, the whole 9 yards, when here in the US and in México. It ain’t fun, but I have to do it. Yet, in France I can go nuts with the baguettes, croissants and pâtisseries because they grow and use a wheat that is lower in gluten than what we have here. Otherwise, I follow a Mediterranean diet and walk everyday as if I were doing a piece of the Camino, sometimes with, sometimes without some weight in my backpack. The key is too keep moving, especially as we get older. 🤙🏽

I'm thinking of it as more of a hiatus. I'm at an age where things start falling apart and I don't know what kind of health I'll be in 10 years from now, so I'm doing some of the things that I couldn't do when I had a family to support.
