Hello Heather … as you see on this great video, it is a challenge but not mission impossible. I ( beyond 65 ) did it several times. My most important advice > always remember > every step gets you closer.. 2nd to that > walk your own speed ..3rd > on the steep parts lower the distance covered by each step until you feel comfortable or walk a zig-zag pattern..4th start early when a clear sky and / or high temperature is prognosed.. 5th drink enough -> finally if it makes you feel more safe > make a reservation in the Hotel Roncevallesz ( early booking advised) this would avoid stressfull situation on the first day. I‘ d never stayed at Albuerege in Orrison except for a coffee break.. and i promise.. you feel great at the and of the day …😊

I've just rebooked flights and an albergue in the last 20 minutes to do this in 2023, 5 years after doing it the first time. That first time was the biggest turning point in my life, it was the greatest experience I ever had. Last year I did the Del Norte, or 250km of it, but I had just started a new relationship and wasn't really prepared to do it without her. Also, the lack of people and connections was starkly different to the Frances, although the views on the Del Norte are unbelievable. As the Fast Hiker says in a comment below, the Frances is the true Camino Spirit. I'm so excited that I'm searching for new videos. Great video sir. :)

I'm over 60 with a lung disease, but we are starting our camino in June 2023, and although I've been hiking hills at home, I'm very nervous about such a steep hike in the heat. Really great vid with lots of the way shown; including the effort it takes to walk it! So many vids spend a long long time videoing their feet, faces, snails ect; i think it was the VDLP where one guy videoed his face constantly or like 25 minutes; he might as well stood in his bathroom and filmed at home ha! ha!

Thanks, hm.. let me think. For me de hike from Le Puy (GR65) to The End of the world, Finisterre was a dream for me. But all the Camino has given me so much in different ways. The most Camino spirit, is for me on Camino Frances. There are fantastic views on all the Camino, the Pyrenees, times when you arrives at the sea on Norte, The landscape and old cities in France. The people and food in Portugal. I’m sorry but they are all in my hart so I can not decide. Oh I almost forgot the Meseta, Cruze de Ferro, Foncebadon, Conques … thanks for watching 🙏😃

I just started watching your videos and I wanted to thank you for them! I am planning my 3rd Camino for September starting in SJPDP and doing the whole Camino Frances! I am 63 years old half fitted ( I walk around my neighborhood or in parks near me in Florida USA) 5 days a week! I am a bit worried about crossing the Pyrenees because my right knee is not too healthy! I am also worried about wild life in this part of the Camino What is your impression about this? Thanks! I did from Sarria to Santiago in 2019 Portuguese Coastal in 2022
@Per-Ola_a_camino_hiker Жыл бұрын
This is how I think about the walk across the Pyrenees, if you are worried about it then split the walk into two. Go to Orrisson (8km) You need to prebook a bed there well in advance. Then day two you continue to Roncesvalles.But I think you can do the hike in one day, if weather is ok but expect it to take 6-8 hours. It is the first 8km that is the heaviest. As for "wild life", you can always find hiking friends to walk with along the way until you feel safe. I hope I answered your questions. 😃☀️

@@Per-Ola_a_camino_hiker thanks so much! I’ll think I’ll split the first stage!

Hi! I so want to do the Camino de Santiago Frances route. I used to walk a lot, have a lot of kilometers behind me. But now I’m in a wheelchair. So, I have a question. They say the last 100 km, from Sarria or so, would be possible/accessible in a wheelchair. But I have never wanted to do something half way (1/8-way). How much of the path is very narrow, full of rocks and very inaccessible? I’m thinking the part crossing the Pyrenees will be the worst, but if I have my husband and another person with me, to maybe even carry/drag/push me/my wheelchair across some bad stretches, maybe it could be done? Any tips? What should I look out for? Thank you so much for putting up these videos, they give me loads of info that I haven’t seen in other channels.
@Per-Ola_a_camino_hiker Жыл бұрын
I don't really know how and if I can answer your question well. I feel that most of the route is wheelchair accessible. There are also alternative routes that may be available. It will be tough but possible, some parts are very hilly and some parts are narrow and the surface is uneven and bad. You can skip parts, you can decide that when you get to that stretch. You can use roads that become detours but it is possible if you have time and get help. If you watch part 2 of my series of videos, you'll see example of how parts of the road on day 2 look like. If you watch all 6 videos in my series, you will then have a good idea of what it looks like. Ex the road down towards Ponferada, which is very rocky and small, there is a road for cars that goes in the same direction. sections that can be really difficult are, as I remember them, before Zubiri, "stairs before Pamplona", down from Alto de perdon, down towards Ponferada, up towards O Cebrerio. Then there are long stretches on gravel.

Kul att följa dig inför min första etapp. Jag har en fråga. Behöver jag ha med sovsäck eller ingår sovsäck på härbärget? Kanske en sovpåse räcker? Med vänlig hälsning, Karin Jakobsson
@Per-Ola_a_camino_hiker Жыл бұрын
