Camino Frances - Day 24
Barbadelo-Portamarin - Ventas De Naron
32km
We started of reasonably early this morning. Jim was feeling much better again. We walked about 9 km before stopping for breakfast. Breakfast was a great just mama in the bar working the breakfast shift.
We had coffee, orange juice, toast and jam. Jim had to open the jam she wasn't sure if it was tomato puree or jam. Mama promptly got a spoon so I could taste to see what it was- Jam it was. We had homemade bread, homemade jam and I'm pretty sure she also churned the butter. We had to wait an age but it was great and a good rest and she was delightful. When we asked if we could take her photo she happily posed for us.
We passed through a lot of villages today which broke up the day. We also meet Houdini the horse who was trying hard to open the gate to escape and Jim made friends with a dog.
Portomarin had huge river with an expansive bridge which was great to walk over.
A lovely walk today with forests, views and not too hard a track. We passed the under 100km mark today and just before we arrived at our Albergue we were under the 80km. Santiago is getting close now.
Today's walk was for my dear Mum (La-Rita) Nan, Great Nan and Great- Great Nan to her beloved grandchildren. Thoughts with my family today as we see 6 years since her passing. I asked for butterflies today and they were delivered. I kicked a rock today and stopped to pick it up wondering if I could see a face in it. Not a face but an angel or a butterfly or I have a vivid imagination like Mum. So it's coming home with me and it'll go in the garden to replace the one Mum found that I took with us and left at Cruz de Ferro.
We are just sitting down for a beer and wine before we need to wash our clothes-- oh the sweet smell of laundry. With laundry done and dried we had tea. A great menu del Pelegrino and just us two as most people seemed to want to be on their own.
Our Albergue Casa Molar Hostel was great. Private room was a bit tight and a shared bathroom with the folks staying in the dorm - so it was a bit of a wait to get into the bathroom. Oh well that’s life on the Camino.
Until tomorrow
