We purchased one and it worked great for about 2 days. It started disconnecting at about 20 minutes (from overheating is my assumption). Once it cooled off it would work again, but for only about 15-20 minutes and then stop. We returned it to Amazon and purchased another BlackMagic UltraStudio Mini Recorder. Sometimes one may overpay and sometimes one gets what he pays for.

Interesting. Justin is using it (this very one in the review) on his imac and we're live streaming with it with no issues. Wonder if you can still get it replaced? If you bought through Amazon, see if you can get it replaced as defective. (also, be sure you're not running it through a hub, but directly in to the port, for full power) -Dave

Be aware, I have this card. It works for some cameras, but not for others. If you check on Alibaba, you can see that it's listed as not compatible with Panasonic and Fuji cameras I believe. It doesn't work with my Panasonic GH4. But it does work with my Sony A7R3 and RX100m4. There's a slew of new 1080p30 capture dongles available now for $15-$30 (eBay vs. Amazon). They've gotten great reviews on EposVox's channel for example. I've ordered a couple to play with and should arrive next week. So if you need something really really cheap and 1080p30 works for you, these new Chinese generic HDMI capture cards are the way to go. Hopefully, they'll make a good 1080p60 and 4k30 version in the near future.

It also works great with some apps, works poorly with some others, and works not at all with some others that normally can use webcams and/or CamLink. OBS is one of the things it works great with!

How it works with embedded audio? I have experience with another cheap capture card - they didn't do sync audio and despite different input video format - gives to OBS always 1080p30. It's inconvenient for me, since I often work with 25 and 50fps...

Bought this and running the Black Magic Cinema 4k into it. Connecting to ProPresenter 7 to use live stream features there, but no matter what frame rate I seem to choose getting dropped frames and very choppy signal. Any recommendations?

You'll need to find out if it has clean hdmi / live view out. If so, then yes.

I might have been confused by the description of the I/O. Sounded like the 3.5mm was described as input from something like a mixer. Based on the device info on the manufacturer website, the audio port is for audio output (not input).

sure, it's no issue. Just use the program output from the TC. If you're currently sending it to a monitor for full screen viewing - then get an HDMI duplicator (powered - not the unpowered ones). Then send that to the camlink. It's an hdmi signal just like any other - shouldn't be an issue at all.
