It's also good, and generally cheaper, to start with a used uniform that has already seen some modest wear and fading.

For shirts, I normally get my shirts,I am ready to retire. Throw them in my work truck wind shield. I try to wad it randomly so the sun does not bleach all of it. By the end of summer it's ready to be used like new again. Apoc style.

Just a bit of info. Put the clothes in a large container of boiling water with tea bags and it will darken and weather the clothes down. Once dried thoroughly, put them in a container of muddy water and leavein the muddy water until the water has evaporated. Lightly rinse, not wash then dry. Or you gan dig a hole and burry them for a week.

or you can just use diluted fabric paint for an instant and clean & wash-resistant result. rather than waste time and effort & end up with muddy clothes you cant wash without losing the effect

I come from the Midwest of the United States where you can spit in any direction and someone has a camo something. Even I hunt. So I find this video very useful as I’m doing a good amount of camo. Gives me lots of ideas! Thank you so much!

For obvious reasons, I can't say anything about an actual apocalypse setting, but,... (Dramatic pause) 😊 as a traveler who was forced to on many occasions by military clothing because it was cheap, I can tell you for a fact. Very long. Kind of counterintuitive if you think about its intended use intended use... But there it is. It's just not very sturdy fabric

but if the gist of it is "army fabric kinda sucks" - yes, since a lot of times, armies tend to buy lowest-bidder gear to save money. privately bought high-level tactical clothing will usually be LOTS higher quality, yes

In my experience, 10 years US Navy, military camo is made for short term hard use. Not long term hard use. There is an expectation of a supply chain in place able to replace worn out uniforms. You also have 3-4 sets of each uniform. Post Apocalyptic setting you might have a spare shirt.

white seems to give you the salt effect of sweating over and over in the uniform in the field. old camo in my experience always gets that faded look.

ok, so fabric paint smells really funky. At least the one I used. Anyway, I recently discovered you don't want to throw the fabric in the wash when the paint is still wet. It'll wash out. Undoing all the hard work. Yeah, I cried a bit. So, don't be like me, wait for the paint to drie, then throw it in the wash (unless you put dust on it, then just hang the thing in the breeze and air it out). You'll have all the postapoc look, without the postapoc smell (or the stiffness of dried paint. I mean, yeah, dirty clothes are stiff, but sometimes, comfort is nice. Especially on clothing directly on the skin, like tshirts)

Personally I avoid camo in costuming just hecause its difficult to distress and weather. It has to be done very carefully to not just end up with a greenish grey blob.

Hello sir, thinking back to my Army life i can remember in basic training my brand new uniform and kit became dirty and torn very quickly! My MTPs became smeared in gun oil, cam cream around the collar, mud, even coffee and food stains😂

I know this is a bit of an old video. After distressing and using paint how would you have it stay if you wash it?
@NuclearSnailStudios
@NuclearSnailStudios 2 ай бұрын
fabric paint will stay in , dont worry :D if you wanna maximize the time it stays in just wash it on more gentle programs, or even by hand.. but really, fabric paint STICKS to fabric. thats its job.

Sure, I’ve tried it a few times. It works. Just be careful so you don’t ruin the fabric too much. Those things can be real sharp

can you cut wood with a serrated butterknife? technically yes, but its masochism and plain weird compared to proper tools. a proper (and best) tool for messing up fabric in my experience is tanzschuhbürste -which is what u see me using in the video
